Would think so if he was wittingly a recipient of 10,000 stamps misappropriated from parliamentary funds and used for electoral mailouts.

Surely must be given a 'second chance' after all it's thinking outside the box and that should be rewarded.....

Federal Labor MP Anthony Byrne has quit as deputy chair of Parliament’s powerful intelligence and security committee amid scrutiny over his admission of branch stacking during an anti-corruption inquiry. Mr Byrne, the member for Holt, told Victoria’s Independent Broad-based Anti-corruption Commission earlier this week he had paid for other people’s party memberships as he turned whistleblower on what he described as a larger scheme of branch stacking led by former powerbroker Adem Somyurek. On Thursday afternoon, he resigned from the Joint Parliamentary Committee on Intelligence and Security, saying its work was crucial to Australia’s national security and “its integrity should never be questioned”. |

He's a cunning bugger, claiming memberships for others were paid out of his own pocket rather than from public funds.

Byrne seemed like an honest sort of guy, after all, he paid for that postage out of his own pocket, I wonder if he shouts the bar when he feels in the mood ?

At yesterday's IBAC enquiry it was revealed that some ALP electorates are controlled by factions, which themselves are controlled by ethnic groups. Most of the names of that have came to the attention of the Commission are of ethnic origin. Surnames such as Somyurek, Melhem, Vaghela, Kumar, Sanli, Kairouz, Heang Tak , Haraco and Koyu . Maybe such surnames indicates the ALP appeals to a broad base in the community or that candidates for election and /or electorate office jobs were used by ALP MPs to reward people who had control of cultural community groups .

Stayer, thanks for that praise. On another matter, there is an ongoing investigation in Victoria into the disappearance and possible murder of a pair of campers who disappeared without trace on a camping trip in a remote part of East Gippsland in March 2020. I might not be Sherlock Holmes, but reading between the lines of a two page spread in this morning's press I reckon I know who the cops have as their main suspect.

Wasn't meant as having a shot at you, Bob. Just agreeing that political parties will resort to any dirty tricks to target paricular demographics. In fact I'd say that's been 80% of "politics" for millenia. They're all essentially selling a product to a market. Sometimes they get caught out for doing it unethically, shock horror.

Watching Labor and Liberal supporters trying to say one party is worse than the other while both are under corruption inquires is amusing. Maybe politicians are just gelati people.

Until Dan gets dragged into it, it is about Somyurek and the factional group surrounding him.
Today's witness Banyule mayor and former factional mover Rick Garotti, who over 2 days has been carved up and sent packing in tears today admitting to multiple criminal acts, was asked on multiple occassions over his 2 days whether other factions behaved the same as he and his boss's faction. He repeatedly said he had no evidence it was the case, and admitted it was all about power moves by Somyurek to take over multiple seats. Similar to what went on in the NSW Labor Party with Eddie Obeid et al.

Whatever he is Bobby, he might be on a deportation list after serving a decent prison term, if what Mr. Garotti swore to today.
Mr Somyurek has been busy tweeting again today. Seems all this corruption stuff is a complete surprise to him but he is learning about it quickly.

Lot of posts on the ICAC enquiry into Gladys, but just as much will be revealed by IBAC into branch staking and employment of family members in Victorian ALP electorate offices being paid on the public teat but not turning up for work.

ICAC more exciting at this stage BB as it's about the Big Dog. If/when IBAC get onto Danny Boy then it'll perk up.

IBAC on recess for a few weeks after yesterday and today's ''witness'' Dr. Haraco fell ill.
I think the mauling of Mr Garotti by SC Chris Carr turned him for the worse.

Judge would not accept Eddie’s claim that he could get COVID if sent to prison, so he was sent straight back to the slammer.
