That is so typical of us punters! I was checking out home track trained gallopers, NSW & Q/land prov/country, morning line priced at 20/1+. I'd write them down & go thru' results as they'd come in & sure enough there'd be an $80 job I'd missed; this happened so often I decided against giving it a try with real $$$s Big smile

Thanks GA.

By a German foaled sire with Junko himself a German Group 1 winner himself.  Ticino our valued member from Germany will no doubt be well pleased.

Balls and all: why Hong Kong horses are mostly geldings

Castration is a topic painful enough to make many wince, but it’s a part of life at Sha Tin

Out of the 1,213 horses currently in training at Sha Tin, nearly 96 per cent of them are geldings, with just 47 still retaining their capacity to breed.Tongue

I'll throw a cat amongst the pigeons.

Since John Moore retired from Hong Kong racing who was the last Aussie trainer to have a decent horse up there ?

Hong Kong Vase....slowest time in history apparently: 2.30.12

Slightly slower than the 1999 Hong Kong Vase won by German bred mare BORGIA in a time of 2:30.10. Trainer was Andre' Fabre.

Is Golden Sixty the best miler in the world currently? That win was amazing!

What a shame there was never a thread on Golden Sixty Cry On the eve of his retirement, this from Vincent Ho:

Ho is now focusing on the rest of the season in Hong Kong and what should be the final two starts in the amazing career of Golden Sixty — and also taking time to reflect on last Sunday's thrilling win.

When barrier 14 was drawn, there were gasps of disbelief from some sections of the audience. The consensus was that it would be a very difficult draw to overcome. But the jockey says he felt it was not a big deal.

"I was probably the only one, who was not worried," he says. "It's a big international race with 14 runners, so there was always a good chance there would be plenty of early pace. And I got the position that I wanted, three-wide with cover.

"I would rather be wide in 14 than drawn barriers one or two. I was always confident. I know what Golden Sixty is capable of," he adds.

Golden Sixty is destined to go into retirement later in the season — owner Stanley Chan says the gelding will live out his days in Japan — but is there part of Ho that wishes the champion had taken on challenges in other countries?

"It's not a disappointment to me, not really. Of course, a lot of people would love to see him overseas. But a lot of overseas horses have come here to Hong Kong and we have beaten them," he points out.

"Prizemoney in Hong Kong is good enough. If you have a horse like him, why risk it? The most important thing is that he is healthy. Of course, as a jockey, I would love to win those Group 1s elsewhere, but he doesn't need to.

"It's like Frankel or Baaeed, did they need to go overseas? No. Like Winx in Australia, did she need to go? No. Even the best horses don't need to go outside all the time. Their success still remains with them."

It takes a wise man a lifetime to grow a tree and a fool five minutes to kill one.

Golden Sixty will bypass the 2024 G1 Stewards' Cup (1600m) at Sha Tin on 21 January after the champion miler presented with a minor leg issue on Wednesday.

Trainer Francis Lui said the record-breaking Golden Sixty – brilliant last-start winner of the G1 LONGINES Hong Kong Mile (1600m) on 10 December – would be restricted to trotting exercises over the next three to four weeks, ruling out a bid at a record-extending 11th international Group 1.

"We found, the day before yesterday (Wednesday) in the morning, a little bit of filling and a little bit of heat (in his front left leg). The vets did a check, a scan and an MRI – there's nothing serious, but they sent a report to England," Lui said.

"It's very slight but, of course, for the safety side, we don't want to push him because the race is only three weeks' time.

"The vets said we can give him light trotting for three or four weeks and progressively we can check on him. The issue is just inside the pastern on his front left leg."

Interesting race today the G1 Stewards Cup, without either of the big 2, Golden Sixty and Romantic Warrior, California Spangle would be favourite at his best but he doesn't appear to be near that currently, Voyage Bubble, who ran 2nd to the great one in the Hong King Mile and Beauty Eternal, who won the G2 lead in to that race head the market.
