Has we see them enter the Australian system I will list them here.

Be interesting to note just how many go forward or backwards down here rather than just speculating.

With an official rating of 110 when in the UK Zaaki is considered a high grade import despite what Poms might want people to believe.

Sound was a high grade German colt when he arrived and despite only winning 2 races down here can be considered a success.

At one stage, Sinawann had an official rating of 115 although it had dropped to 111 for his final start in Ireland before coming here.

Lloyd Williams has brought a few highly rated over hasn't he? Sea Moon is the first I can think of.

Voila Ici was a dual G1 winner in Italy before coming out here and failing to fire a shot.

The Annabel Neasham trained OTI owned, 105 rated listed winning gelding Reve De Vol is dead after one start in Australia in the Golden Eagle.

I wonder what happened ?

Stunning pick up. This guy just happens to have Reve De Vol form.

Maddie Raymond has an eye on Australian Cup and Queen Elizabeth with Earlswood

 by Brad Waters
EarlswoodEarlswoodImage: Getty

Maddie Raymond's work with a tricky import has led to the Warrnambool trainer taking delivery of a possible Australian Cup or Queen Elizabeth Stakes hopeful.

Raymond’s patience with Wentwood led to the import going from a St Arnaud Cup winner to a Group 3 Bendigo Cup winner in the space of 12 months.

Now Wentwood’s connections have given Raymond the chance to reach higher levels with talented galloper Earlswood.

Earlswood was a dual Group 3 winner in Ireland and finished fourth to Hurricane Lane in last year’s Group 1 Irish Derby before his transfer to Raymond’s stable.

“He’s got quite good overseas form,” Raymond said.

“He’s more of a staying type but he’s got a good turn of foot.”

The Irish Derby winner Hurricane Lane went on to show the strength of the form with Group 1 wins in France and England in subsequent outings.

Raymond was thrilled to start working with Earlswood, the impressive winner of the Group 3 Royal Whip Stakes at the Curragh last year.

“It’s super exciting to get him,” Raymond said. “I never thought 12 or 18 months ago that I’d have a horse like him in the stable.

“He’s been here about six weeks and has acclimatised really well.

“He’s a really exciting prospect to have in the stable.”

Raymond said she had not decided on a starting point for Earlswood’s Australian career.

Races at Caulfield in February are possible first-up assignments while the All-Star Mile and Australian Cup could also land on Earlswood’s autumn agenda.

“We’ll play it by ear a bit with him. We might run him first-up in the Carlyon (Cup) over a mile,” Raymond said.

“If he happens to run really well over the mile, we might have to have a look at the All-Star Mile.

“If he needs further, then we’ll go to the Peter Young (Stakes over 1800m).

“The Australian Cup has been in the back of my mind since he arrived here and we’ve been working on that, trying to learn a bit more about him.

“There’s also the Queen Elizabeth (Stakes) in Sydney.”

Earlswood is a $51 chance in All-Star Mile, but the recent arrival is not in TAB’s pre-nomination Australian Cup or Queen Elizabeth Stakes entries.

Normandy Bridge (FR) Underwent a veterinary examination upon arrival, having not raced since June 2021, and was passed suitable to race. Slow to begin. Laid in under pressure in the straight. Rider John Allen reported that the horse was agitated pre‑race, and then failed to run on in the straight. Rider John Allen was fined $300 under the provisions of AR132(6)(a) for use of the whip forward of the horse's shoulder in the early part of the straight. A post‑race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Stewards will follow up with the stable.

Description

16hh

Wiesenbach is a 6yo gelding who has experience racing in Italy and Hong Kong.

He is a Group 3 winner over 1800 metres, and he’s placed in Stakes company on multiple occasions.

The gelding struggled to acclimatise to his new surroundings last preparation, performing below par in both of his trials.

He is currently spelling over the warmer months and should improve next preparation.

Straight forward to train

Maddie gave this guy a huge rap on RSN early morning, despite repeated questioning as to whether he'd be sharp enough & looking at him pre race he was the one I wanted to be on (no internet & too hard to negotiate on the phone LOL so missed out). She was adamant he'd be fresh enough but the price reflected the same sory of punters being drawn to the name stables.

'ponies', this mob do trainers & jockeys too tho' I've no idea how reliable. Go to My Stable to set up the BB & once added someone/horse, click the envelope for how many days pre race you want it.

As an old-time punter I had a look at the entries for races in provincial NSW the other day and noted how many horses were imported to race in Australia, let alone provincial NSW. Horses were from GB,  IRE, USA, JAP, FRA and of course NZ. If I went back to an old racebook from the 1960s or the 1970s I reckon only NZ would appear next to any import. How times have changed.
