For the last 9 years with the Libs gutting the public service and spending tens of billions a year on lobbyists, nobody was in charge of policy...and it showed.

What an asinine post.

Frank and open advice from public sector workers, the very linchpin of apolitical government, was cancelled the moment Tony Abbott was elected.  And was franked by successive Coalition Governments.

And we wouldn't be in this detainee sh1t now if those Governments took notice of unbiased advice from responsible departmental heads unlike the disgraced Pezzullo.

Well our local member (Liberal) needs a better staff as she lost, misplaced and generally didn't get the Kings letter to Mum for her 100th birthday.  Daughter went to her four times.  Then blew up and emailed the PM's office.  Guess what we got letters from everyone from the King to the speaker of the house, GG, Prime Minister, Premier you think it we got it.  So why so hard for our local ministers office?

Were it not for public servants the machinery of government would quickly ground to a halt.

Only a cretin would dispute that.

Well sacking Pezzullo was a great start.

There are no "factions" in the Commonwealth public service. The reality is that the vast majority of people employed by the Commonwealth, irrespective of their political affiliations or preferences, work as very best they can in the best interests of the Australia and Australians.

They want the tobacco tax to fund tax cuts for the rich. At an estimated cost of 5,000 lives a year.

That's how Tories roll.

They even admitted it was because it would cost money and as Peters has stopped foreign ownership of property which they wanted to tax heavily they needed the money for tax cuts

Tiny Pinder allowed to stay in Australia despite multiple chances to deport ex-Perth Wildcats star and serial sex offender

An ABC investigation has found authorities missed multiple opportunities to deport an NBL player and serial rapist, despite him sexually abusing and stalking multiple women and girls in Australia.

The ABC can now reveal how former Wildcats star Kendal 'Tiny' Pinder was permitted by the federal government — and later an independent tribunal — to remain in Australia, despite him using his fame to lure multiple young women whom he sexually abused over decades.

Pinder was granted Australian citizenship in 1986, even though he had been previously convicted of a sexual offence involving a teenage girl in the United States.

The former Harlem Globetrotter played for three NBL teams in the late 1980s and early 1990s, helping the Perth Wildcats secure their first two championships.

Despite spending stints in jail for sexual offences involving four girls – one as young as 15 — in the 1990s, his citizenship was not revoked until 2007.

An ex-citizen visa has allowed the now 67-year-old to remain in Australia indefinitely, but does not allow him to return should he leave.

Instead of seeking to remove NZYQ immediately from Australia, Peter Dutton made a decision that enabled the convicted paedophile in the middle of the High Court case to stay in Australia.

Brilliant..

Robert De Niro said his speech criticizing former President Donald Trump at the Gotham Awards was edited on the teleprompter without his consent — so he read his original remarks off his phone instead. 'The former president lied to us more than 30,000 times during his 4 years in office, and he’s keeping up the pace in his current campaign of retribution,' De Niro read on, while speaking about the new Martin Scorsese film 'Killers of the Flower Moon,' in which he co-starred. 'But with all his lies, he can’t hide his soul. He attacks the weak, destroys the gifts of nature, and shows disrespect, for example, by using 'Pocahontas' as a slur.' After reciting the omitted text, De Niro blamed Apple, which produced the film, for the incident.

There had been requests for USA to take him. Remember under Turnbull, a deal was done with the Obama administration among other countries(inc NZ) to take people off our hands. Trump inherited it and was not happy but I think honored it.

I think this NZYQ guy was in the group requested the US take, and they didn't say no and still haven't, so it was argued that technically he wasn't someone who couldn't be deported,

No need to worry about a Chinese invasion. We are loaded, with brass.Shocked

New research reveals the ranks of senior officers in the Australian military has almost doubled over the past twenty years, despite a steady decline in overall numbers of enlisted defence personnel.

Analysis prepared by the Parliamentary Library confirms the number of "star-ranked" officers in the Australian Defence Force now totals 219, up from 119 in 2003.

The figures, commissioned by the Greens Party, confirm that for every senior Australian Defence Force (ADF) officer, there is just 260 other lower ranked officers or regular personnel serving below them.

Star-ranked officers, or 'flag officers' are those who serve at the Commodore, Brigadier or Air Commodore level and higher in the Navy, Army, and Air Force respectively.

In the United States there are 863 star-ranked officers, with the ratio of one senior officer for every 1526 personnel, while in the United Kingdom the proportion is one star-ranked officer for every 1252 other enlisted members.

Greens Senator and Defence spokesperson David Shoebridge says the "top-heavy" nature of the ADF is laughable given the declining numbers of overall military personnel.

"When you have so much gold braid and so few troops it feels like a satire, not a military," Senator Shoebridge tells the ABC.

This year Australia’s Chief of Defence will collect a salary of over $1 million, far higher than the Chairman of the Joint Chief of Staff in the United States who earns $329,304 and the UK Chief of the Defence Staff who is paid $534,509.LOL

Yes, because our chief is much better than theirs. You have to pay big bucks to get the best.Dead
