"Why should they escape punishment for their horrendous crimes?"
Many (most?) of them have been punished in Australia for crimes committed in Australia. Of the ones who have committed crimes in other jurisdictions, how do we know of these crimes? Who says so? |

Those who committed crimes here have all served their sentences and cannot be deported for one reason or another. Having served their sentences they would be released back into the community had they been citizens.
These people are in limbo, done their time are on parole (TPV's) but cant be deported. What do you do with them? The TPV's mean they are released under sctrict controls and threats of mandatory sentencing should they so much as break a curfew. The opposition has no clue. Dutton says ignore the HC, Patterson this morning had n answer but claims the opposition are just trying to help the govt. Patterson asked if Dutton's ignore the court was an option said no.

How do we know the crimes they committed in other countries ? Most likely the other countries seeked extradition on the grounds for which they were convicted .

Some details that I could find (article by Paul Karp)
Of the 92, 78 are owed protection obligations while the rest are stateless or have “intractable” cases, such as an inability to identify the detainee or lack of cooperation from them or their home country. The document shows that 21 of their cases were referred to the home affairs minister for character concerns related to “national security, cybercrime, serious and high profile organised/gang related, high ranking [outlaw motorcycle gangs] members”. A further 27 were referred to Giles for concerns related to very serious “violent offences, crimes against children, family/domestic violence” or “violent, sexual or exploitative offences against women”. Some 35 were character decisions made by delegates of the minister. The document warns that the former three categories do “not necessarily reflect the severity of the character concerns”. Just nine were “general cancellations” for reasons other than character concerns, such as incorrect information in the visa application, change in circumstances, or the “the health, safety or good order” of Australia – the provision infamously used by former minister Alex Hawke against Novak Djokovic. Most of the people have been in detention for five years or more, including 10 in their eighth year of detention, two in their ninth year, four in their 11th, and one each in the 12th and 13th year. The most common countries of citizenship were: Afghanistan (18), Iran (17), Sudan (10), Iraq (7), South Sudan (4), Eritrea (3), Sri Lanka (3), and two each from China, Cambodia, Pakistan, Vietnam and Zimbabwe. The document contains inconsistencies, and advocates warn it could be misleading or incomplete in some respects. At one point it states that nine people are stateless, but elsewhere in a graph suggests the number is five. |

The bottom line is we hope they're all tagged and accounted for. You can't police everything unless you want to be in China, N Korea etc.

Many (most?) of them have been punished in Australia for crimes committed in Australia. Great. Now send them back to their country. They should never have been here in the first place. If they wernt here they wouldnt have been punished, or detained, here. People here illegally need to be gone from here. Others come here legally and work hard and make a go of it. Some of them wait years to get here. How about the bloke murdered his partner and tried to dissolve her body ? Then, before they caught him, he tried to get at her 2 small girls too ? Those kids went thru all the trauma of a murdered mother, trials, etc, and thought once he was locked up they would be safe. Now, because this monster has rights (cry me a river about his rights ) they are having to relive it all again, with the constant fear he will come for them. Ship him off before he does more murder. No point shutting the door when the horse has got out. |

. You can't police everything Exactly. The police cant cover everything they are expected to now. How are they supposed to keep up with this lot, and 300 more besides, in a country this size. Impossible. If they are not Australian, get rid of them. Bad enough we have enough of our own to contend with.

Well, maybe if the PM stayed home long enough to wash his undies he could see about doing something to rectify this disgusting law. I heard them say tonight that this , whatever it is they are supposed to bring in, wont be law at least, at earliest, Jan. How many more get foot loose and fancy free by then ?

It's an endless delay game until someone crosses the line by doing a crime and captures the public imagination. Which probably won't happen.

The reason any "permanent" law will not be done before January is that is when the High Court is expected to issue the full reasons for their decision.
Until then nobody can be sure what if anything can be done without getting overruled again

and just how are these people that were released funding their lives ? surely no one is hiring them and it Centerlink is funding them then the public might raise a few eyebrows ? are they able to rent or buy a home or car etc ? in limbo seems like a shi te place to be, particularly if its forever. Off to the Mega factory then, at least its work.

A reaction to this sort of rubbish....
A woman who filmed a viral video ranting at police and security as they arrested a young boy in a Queensland shopping centre has been charged with obstruction. Video of the incident posted to TikTok last week showed several security guards in Morayfield Shopping Centre, north of Brisbane, following a boy as they attempt to block him from leaving. The woman filming follows the group and argues with the security officers, telling them to “stop touching him”. You cannot restrain him physically, let him go,” she says. The security guards are seen using their bodies to block the exits. “That’s actual assault,” the woman says. “You’re touching him and you don’t have you badge number displayed, that is against the legislation.” A police officer then arrives and arrests the boy, who appears to be around 10 years old, and warns the woman she will be charged as well if she doesn’t leave. “Police responded to a reported incident of stealing from a store within Morayfield Shopping Centre on Friday November 10, 2023,” a Queensland Police spokesman said“As a result of this incident, a juvenile male was dealt with in accordance with the provisions of the Youth Justice Act. In addition, a 45-year-old woman from Labrador was issued a notice to appear in the Caboolture Magistrates Court, charged with trespass, obstruct police, and contravene direction or requirement of a police officer.”The woman’s original TikTok video has been viewed 1.2 million times. Responding to users’ comments, she claimed she had made “complaints” against police and security and “they are going to pay dearly for their actions”. “I’m going to get a huge payout. Because exactly right I know the law,” she wrote. “My last payout was $30,000 for a cop not knowing the law. Taxpayer funded.”She also shared an email from a representative for security firm Trident Services, who said the company was “conducting an internal confidential investigation to this matter”. “Respectfully, our operative at the time was involved in a security event with another person at the time,” he wrote. “Therefore, our officer was under no obligation throughout the time of the event to produce her licence to you or any other persons.” She claimed in another video that police were heavy-handed in arresting her. “I have complex PTSD and I had a panic attack and asthma attack,” she wrote. He refused to call an ambulance … I asked them to call the officer in charge as I did not feel safe. They refused.” Trident Services has been contacted for comment. |
