As a general rule - the fancier the bet - the more the house rake

Win rake - best

Quinella / Exacta rake in the middle

Firsat 4 / Quaddie rake - take it up the clacker

Triple Trio - come in spinner LOL

Zeljko can’t win without generous rebates.
Using a bank of computers an international bank would envy, and a floor filled with form experts.

But you outperform him, knowing absolutely nothing about form, raving/track bias,  without even blocking the tote window…..

Out of curiosity what is the doubles pool on a Saturday worth these days?

Doubting Thomas, who cares what the size of the pools are if a bookie will set you for the tote dividend.  What you seem to misunderstand Zeljko is betting huge money into tote pools and is cruelling his own dividend, if he bet a smaller amount, although he would make a lesser profit without that rebate, he would still make a profit.
BTW, my turnover today would be 40 times less than it was all those years ago, and if you allow for inflation more like 120 times less, so no bookie worth their own salt is too worried about me winning off them.

Hmmm, for someone who claims to have made a profit for decades, betting exclusively on tote pools, it’s hard to fathom how you could possibly state that pool size is of no consequence.
Even the most inexperienced punters understand that small pool sizes means dividends become a lucky dip.one bet at the death by anyone else, can turn your 4.00 pop into 1.80 or $10.

Your assessment on Zeljko is bizarre!
You tell us he’s doing it wrong, and if he did as you suggest, he’d make less moneyShocked.
Do you understand I do not bet on the win tote anywhere, but only bet on daily doubles at obscure interstate race meetings where ,outside of the residents in that home state , nobody even knows the form / jockeys/ trainers or even where to town, let alone the track, maybe located eg Dalby (Qld ), is it somewhere in the outback or near Toowoomba ??? , Tuncurry (NSW) or Edenhope (Vic ) . The TAB pool on the Edenhope DD on the Qld  TAB would not be much more than $1000 and nobody in Qld, or for that matter in NSW,  is going to launch a plunge on that daily double, yet I have found a bookie who will bet me the best dividend of the 3 TABs. As I am able to capitalise on that loophole of the best dividend I can show a small profit.
Your betting into pools of $1k, you reckon the dividends are stable, your a consistent winner, getting top tote, and the bookie hasn’t restricted you?
Pull the other one.

Well what ever you are doing with your punting, good luck, I will stick to mine, despite your doubts. Maybe you can make my luncheon with Second Chance one day and we can catch up. I will even shout.

Exactly 99% of punters can compare the win dividend to the SP and that same 99% have no idea of what a trifecta's dividend true value should be.

You could both do a lot worse than coming to Rosehill for the TBV "Once in a Blue Moon" function on the 29th April. Even Second Chance would be welcome

However you better RSVP quickly - the numbers are getting huge !  Thumbs Up

jj . I see one of your heroes was Rain lover, that puts everything into perspective. I remember betting on the Cup the year he won, which BTW, was the year Rusty Nails was born. It his hard to teach new dogs old tricks.

Rain Lover was my very first ever bet. I got overs from my father and put my part-time job's entire pay-packet on it...

Then bought a new pair of professional roller skates with the winnings.

If I had being betting today it would have being on the DDs at
Gatton, Townsville, Parkes & Camperdown, which are off the radar of 99% of Saturday punters and all will have small pools, especially those outside of their home state. I do not think too many Victorians will be launching into the Parkes or Gatton DDs.

I'm confused why would you want to bet into DD pools with less money in them ?

The smaller the pool the more variance in the dividends. If you have 5 people in a room and 3 vote ALP, 1 votes Greens and the other votes Liberal that would hardly reflect the voting intentions of 1,000 or 10,000  people. Such a small sample of those 5 people is also reflected in small tote pools and if I can take advantage of anomalies by betting with a bookie who pays the best of the 3 TABs within those small pools I will continue to bet those DDs
Any statistician knows that small sampling of anything leads to misinterpretation  , just as those 5 people above do not reflect voting intentions of the masses.

Just to keep a few of you doubters up to date, I have failed to collect on the last 8 daily doubles on which I have bet. I am still well ahead but, as any punter knows, you cannot win all the time. I am in for the long haul.

And talking about mathematical ability, and its assistance in investing money on the nags, here's a question for you all.  You need to be honest with yourself by (a) not doing a wiki, and more importantly (b) admitting to yourself (at very least) how long it took to reach the correct answer without seeking outside assistance.  It's important in a wagering sense as one needs to assess and act without hesitation upon immediate identification of price anomalies, though I haven't expressed that as well as I might have

So here it is: a person buys $100k worth of shares @ 3 cents each, and sells for 19 cents.  What's the return and the pre-tax profit?

How true, if you cannot think mathematically on your feet punting, as in all financial transactions, you might be best suited coming off the backmarkers handicap at the Stawell Easter gift.

No-one up for the challenge by all accounts.

Casually mentioned the scenario to BB over lunch, an investment that was actually made by a mate of mind.  Bob noted the profit etc in a split second.

well. logic would tell you the pre-tax profit is sixteen thousand...but since I don't play the market, who knows? Might be broker's fees involved.
