It says a lot about this race that those at the top of the weights here are currently outside the field for the Caulfield Cup, if the Auckland Cup deserved a downgrade, surely this race is at least on the warning level?

I remember this race being on notice about 15 years ago as being a potential downgrade. Somehow it avoided the chop. It must be at serious risk once again though.

It has 4 Derby winners in it. including Two ATC Derby winners.

An Oaks placegetter, a St Leger and Tancred placegetter.

Gee, I think it’s a crackerjack field this year.

Could have been even better if Lloyd &/or Ciaron split up their teams of stayers - but they’ve chosen to gang tackle the Bart Cummings Stks.  Which I can understand - $750k race in your own backyard & auto entry to the Cup.

I’d be expecting She’s Ideel & Montefelia to run well on Saturday and be major players for the Caulfield Cup.

If Zeyrek (2nd em) can jag a run, he might be a sleeper for the race too.

Maybe I'm being a bit cynical about the race?

No Compromise looks soooo good with 50kgs imho. Should shake the bejezus out of this race on the minimum.

Well the horse I tipped as a sleeper, Zeyrek, has now got a run.

So much for being a sleeper, seems he must have been on the radar of plenty of others too, now crunched into 9/1 !!

Absolutely - 100% spot on mate.

The fact that A&S Freedman have switched Warning (whose two runs at Randwick have been shocking) and Le Don De Vie here instead of running at Flemington tells you that this field is weaker than either the Turnbull or the Bart Cummings.

But from a punting perspective it is still a good betting race!

Entente has been absolutely crunched. Third run in two weeks but bolted home last week.

Could Entente be a big smoky for the Cup?

Looking at all of todays staying runs I have them all in this order.

Selino
Grand Promenade
Chapada
Incentivise (although if he wins the Caulfield Cup and gets a penalty that will drop him in the order)
Young Werther
Montefilia (depends on her getting a penalty for her win today)
Realm of Flowers
Tralee Rose (although I still think she is a risk at the 3200m)
Entente
Master Of Wine

So in other words Entente needs to improve on his effort today and on her previous record with Metrop runners, Gai will be waiting another year for a another Cup win. That was his grand final today!

In my opinion Realm Of Flowers should be up that list a little bit more. Was ridden near nast and ran on well from behind and finished 6th, only 2.5 lengths away from the winner (Grand Prominade).
