I cannot believe this is a group 1 field , surely it could be downgraded to a group 2 and the Everest slotted in as the group 1 it now deserves.

My point is, nobody in the world likely to buy or sell a thoroughbred product doesn't know that the Everest the richest turf race in the world and one of the best sprint races, so it doesn't really matter what the classification is.

You disagree? Who would it make the slightest difference to in their valuation of the Everest?

I mean Pearl Buck has a G1 rating from the Nobel literature committee but no one in their right mind thinks that Pearl Buck is a better writer than Tolstoy.Wink

I don't care if they never do. It won't diminish the Everest but it does make them look ridiculous. Wink

More likely they'll just allow the Everest to become a G1 and maintain the G1 status of this, I mean not having it happen like that opens a potential can of worms on clashes such as, Thousand Guineas/Flight Stakes, Winx Stakes/Memsie Stakes, Makybe Diva Stakes/George Main Stakes, Epsom/Toorak, Randwick Guineas/Australian Guineas and that is just the ones with same conditions, distance and Group status.

Good post.  Thing is V'Landy's reckoned having multi-million races essentially up against similar races in Vic would be a winner.  The Golden Eagle is a clear example other than the Everest

And he's been proved correct with a top class field last Saturday.  However in the absence of that race  3/4 of the field would otherwise have been running on Friday night.
