Those jewels around Rinehart's neck could house a few families I reckon.

If I could tie them down and keep them still for longer than 5 mins I might get you a copy LOL  However I think it would be more like Gina than the Picasso one.

Good one Freefall.  LOL

Talking about art, our class master in year 9 at High School was James Mollison, he who created a storm by paying $1.3m for Blue Poles on behalf of the National Gallery of Australia.

Believe me he was a far better director of the Gallery than he was as a teacher.  Tongue

😂😂😂 Perhaps ask for another pic from a different angle?

(But I agree with Carl; the artwork is divine.)

Agree it's great but it's endlessly fascinating how paintings are worth so much as years go by. It's understandable to some extent but also definitely a crazily expensive hobby among the ultra rich. Imagine what could be done with that money, rather than hanging a good painting on a wall so that Joe Blows can check it out for a couple of minutes and say Wow. We're a funny bunch.

Just had a quick google to check what authentic Mozart stuff (eg original scores etc) might be worth in comparison to paintings, and it's funny that the highest price goes to a PAINTING of Mozart!

So, some bozo's painting of the guy is worth more than original scores, historical artefacts etc? What makes paintings worth so much more than other art?

Holy crap. 86 million! Imagine Gustav knowing what it would sell for in future, after he'd done his very last, extremely delicately and thoughtfully placed little splodge of paint!

It’s simple, they are trophies for people with too much money.

It was probably always a rich man's form of art for rich people. The paints themselves cost a bit, only people with time on their hands could spend time on it, portraits were basically like selfies among the wealthy....

I like the period where painters used to put a little skull somewhere in the picture to remind the client (and themselves and fellow painters) that they were mortals.
