Lot 727 (see earlier page) ran up to $180k and passed in at that price.

You can't hold the withdrawn in the numbers Djebel.  I am Invincible should read .87% sold.  If you are including the withdrawn the figure should be .76%.  So I'm not sure what you mean.

Spot on Furious, and the other %'s are up the spout too.

However the averages etc make great reading.

I marked three by The Autumn Son to follow.  Two went in the $200 to $300 mark.  One for $400K.  Not sure yet what will be the best cross for him.

I marked one of the cheaper Trapeze Artist's due to Planet Kingdom being in the mix of the dam.  Trapeze and Planet are from the same female line so was looking out for him in the mix.  Not too many around.

Likewise with Grunt checked anything with Redoute's so lots to choose from.

I had a few lots I marked go over the $1M mark.  I guess I'm not buying so will follow.  The lonhro-cool Passion, Zoustar-Summer Sham, I am Invincible-Villa Carlotta.  Pain in the neck when that happens.  I try to avoid the dearer ones but hey sometimes something looks lovely or the page hocks me in.

One cheapy I liked the pedigree of was Merchant Navy-Platelet.  Only $100K so hope it didn't fail its xrays but highly likely when taking into account the amount of money going on some far lesser pedigrees.

Another I marked due to being a filly and cheap was Not a Single Doubt-Belle Que $20K.  That is a million dollar family (even this week) so something had to be very wrong.  Hopefully she'll make a good broodmare.

Oh and my favourite part of any sales is the time when a smaller stud get's that high price yearling.  Well over their reserve.

I've been at Inglis plenty of times when one is moving up in price and you watch the vendor get very fidgety and not knowing whether a cartwheel would be out of place.  It's great to see hard work year in and year out rewarded.  It can be few and far between in this industry.  Where the big boys still claim most of the best prices.  They do expend the most to get those prices - but then along comes a I am Invincible who threw types to die for and off very cheap service people were getting well over what they hoped for.

That is always my favourite thing to come from a sale.  Last night it was Fernrigg Farms turn.

Trapeze Artist - She's Not.  You find Planet Kingdom through Caitie's Kingdom dam of Prince Salieri.

Yes, I thought it was nice for Fernrigg Farm too, Furious.  Seem like really nice people so good on them.

Well MM Adelaide actually.  Ok Gerry Harvey effectively runs MM, and his Baramul Stud has a heap of ordinary horses in this sale.

But never before have I witnessed entries being run up as has the Baramul draft thus far, with some purchasers clearly falling for it and paying clear overs.

Here's the ones that have been passed in, which arguably illustrates my point: passed $42k, reserve $45: passed 13 reserve 15; passed 22.5 reserve 25; passed 24 reserve 25; passed 74 reserve 75.

Auctioneers would have had trouble keeping a straight face.

And now passed $34k reserve $35k: passed 40 reserve 45: passed 24 reserve 25; passed 44 reserve 45: passed 22.5 reserve 25.

Apart from the totality of the embarrassing run-ups, no less than seven were passed just $1k below their reserves.  Shocked  Which clearly emphasizes the shenanigans, because virtually no vendor passes up a sale for the sake of $1,000. Dead

Isn't it just the case the the auctioneer pulls bids off the wall until one prior to the reserve and then sees whether there is a genuine one? I was never under the impression that there were actual bids from real bidders to one shy of the reserve.

Probably right robbo but that is the point. An auction is supposed to meet the market price. But when the price is being run up without bidding then that distorts it.

You could just imagine how much lower the averages would be if the auctions were policed properly. It is not a free-market it is basically an oligopoly.

That's a fair point, but if the yearling passes in then it shouldn't be too distortive because the market price wasn't determined. It's analogous to a vendor bid at a property auction, just with less transparency.
