Noticed him scratched from the Geelong Cup due to lameness in his right foreleg.

Havent seen confirmation of this but Shawy’s reported him as immediately retired.  Was 8th in Melb Cup order of entry, so another opportunity for a horse lower in the pecking order to get a spot in the Cup.

A shame Spanish Mission hasn’t held up to much racing down here as he was a really talented stayer.

Eight starts here in Aust for 4 x 3rd placings in the 2021 Melb Cup, 2022 Carlyon Cup, 2022 Australian Cup & 2022 Feehan Stks.

Still a stallion, so if retired it will be interesting to see where he turns up at stud.

They had trouble finding a home for Sound and he had a better record on track than this guy, although I guess the breeding of this fella and Frankels success down here already may make it easier to find a home somewhere for him as a more budget option?
Seeing Manchester United relegated would mean more than words can describe to me.

Damien is chief racing reporter at The Age

Sad news. Spanish Mission has been retired after suffering a suspensory injury, hence his scratching for tomorrow’s Geelong Cup. That’s the first four across the line in the 2021 Melb Cup all retired: Verry Elleegant, Incentivise, Spanish Mission and Floating Artist.
