Or if he doesn't fire. But that's the name of the game, after all they've got a business to run.

Personally believe he could be anything provided he gets the right mares and a little patience from trainers.

Believe Maurice has six Australian stakes winners thus far.  Four are out of Redoute's Choice mares and the other from a Flying Spur mare.  Ok RC mares are too close for Hitotsu however there's a clear pattern emerging here and thinking breeders will hopefully build on that.

Yeah i get that, but i hate how they cull them sometimes before they even get their first crop onto the track. Ouch

In hindsight the 3yo crop he was beating wasn't exactly a vintage one. Hard to know where he would have measured up at as a 4yo.

Agree also.  But then again there's the old saying "You can't much more than win" which he did in 4 of 5 starts with Maher/Eustace.  Wink

I think Alegron and Benaud are very respectable horses whilst Hitotsu was a winner.

I suspect he had heaps of improvement to come.

Well I agree to a point , I've always held him in high regard , but to me he won both Derby's on heart , moreso that staying ability , to me he looked a perfect 1600-2000 metre horse , my theory is when you get a horse who is so genuine then you ask of him to go further when genetics and fitness allows , sometimes things can go awry , his sire was a miler ( pretty sure ) and a good one , his dam side tells me there's a lot of sprint- miler type breeding , but then again I might have it all wrong , to me , he was a fine racehorse . Star

6 group 1 wins for Maurice, 4 at 1600 and 2 at 2000m.

His Hong Kong Cup win was spectacular running down a superb Highland Reel who really ran well that day. I will upload that race when I get home as well.

I must say that the only winners I know. by Maurice are Hitotsu , Kibou and Mazu , I did see him race in Honkers and always impressed me as a miler fwiw .

My bad, It was not Highland Reel he beat, but he was impressive none the less.
