Was doing some research and this fellow came up.  He was an American bred son of Epsom Derby winner Empery, and twice won the VATC Eclipse Stakes in Oz after earlier winning at "Listed" level in the USA.

See that at stud he served small books and all told had just 85 living foals.  But what took my eye was that he was still successfully serving mares at the ripe old age of 28.

Anyone else have any info about this fellow?

SC, if memory serves me correctly, So Vague was purchased by Bart Cummings, not long after/before TJ bought Bold Aussie. Listed races in USA at the time were 2 bob a dozen, worthless but still black type. That was very early days of the pattern system which was very quickly trimmed. Again if memory serves me, Rosedale was another import to be trained by JBC at about the same time as So Vague. FWIW

I found an article after his win in the 1986 Eclipse Stks that mentions he was trained by Colin Hayes.

Result of that 1986 running (Sandown 2136m) was:

1. So Vague
2. Puckle Harbour
3dh. Glen Moriston
3dh. Pharostsan

Just a note about So Vague and his US racing...

The horse had 16 starts as a two year old in 1983.
He won his maiden after his 8th start at Churchill Downs. His next start was in G1 Hopeful Stakes at Saratoga where he finished 6th. After 5 unsuccessful tries in Allowance company he won at Latonia (Kentucky) and was shipped to California where he won the Listed 7 furlongs Hollywood Prevue Stakes ($121,300) as a field entry starting at 18/1 ridden by female jockey Patti Cooksey (at the time US leading female jockey). In his last start of the year 11 days later he finished 9th in the G1 Hollywood Futurity to Fali Time. Also in the race were later champions female Althea (6th) and Precisionist (10th).

As a 3YO So Vague was pointed to a Triple Crown campaign. Winning in a prep Allowance at Latonia then finishing 10th in the G3 Jim Beam Stakes, 7th in the G1 Blue Grass Stakes at Keeneland and 11th in the G1 Kentucky Derby to Swale. He was rested after an unsuccessful start at River Downs (Cincinnatti) 8 days after the Derby. A couple of minor placings were achieved in the early autumn at The Meadowlands and Belmont Park before winning again at Latonia in December.

As a 4YO his first start was in January at Latonia where he won following with one more start for a third before being shipped to OZ.
