Thought you'd appreciate this tribute Carioca Wink

Carioca who has been inducted into Queensland Racing’s Hall of Fame was regarded as "the second edition of Bernborough" as he swept all before him in Sydney in the 1952-53 season. He was owned by Toowoomba trainer Jack Booshand who had trained the colt’s sire Felt Yet to win a Queensland Guineas. Booshand paid 100 guineas for Carioca as a yearling and won three restricted class races with him as a three-year-old at Eagle Farm, Albury and Hawkesbury. Booshand gave him only one start as a four-year-old and recognising his potential he leased him to Sydney based trainer Perc (Duck) Hoysted. Three starts into his five-year-old season Carioca began a sequence of seven wins straight culminating in the 1952 Villiers Handicap and Randwick Summer Cup double, prompting his regular jockey Billy Cook to say he was the best horse he had ridden. Carioca won the 1953 Sydney Cup and later that year the AJC Metropolitan Handicap carrying 60.5kg. He won 20 races in all including the Chipping Norton Stakes twice.
Other inductees into the Hall of Fame were Colin O’Neill (jockey), Eric Kirwan (trainer), the Strong family of trainers Athol and sons Neil and Daryl and grandson Peter, and in the associates category the legendary Ballard family of jockeys and trainer Keith and Denise and son Dan from Mt Isa.

Wisdom has been chasing me but I've always outrun it!

Note the La Fleche cross:

La Fleche (1889–1916) was a British Thoroughbred racehorse and broodmare. After being sold for a world record price as a yearling in 1890, she was undefeated as a two-year-old in 1891, winning races against her own sex and defeating some of the year's leading colts. She went on to become the dominant British three-year-old of 1892, claiming the Fillies’ Triple Crown by winning the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket, the Oaks at Epsom and the St Leger at Doncaster. Her only defeat of the year came when she finished second when starting favourite for The Derby.

La Fleche’s best runner was John O’Gaunt, who finished second in the Derby and sired Swynford. Her daughter Baroness La Fleche, by Ladas, produced the 1000 Guineas winner Cinna, who in turn produced the successful stallion Beau Pere. La Fleche was retired from breeding in 1911, and she died at Sledmere in late April 1916[3] at the age of twenty-seven.

I was at Wellington NSW--in 1953 when he won the Metrop , with a sterling finish .   Had my last on him .

I recall the after shocks of the winning debate when it was stated he ran the final furlong in 11 sec.
I wouldn't know , but that was the point of debate. Where did that near 70 years go

Funny thing about that Metropolitan. Macca , he was coupled for big big money to win the Both Epsom and Metrop. in the first leg he had to jump a fallen horse at the furlong and by this time the winner Silver Phanton had a winning lead Carioca finished 3rd , their doubles now RS he approached the stewards to scratch on the Monday for the Metropolitan as he said the horse was jaded from his run , stewards said no we'll get our vet to assess on Sunday , past fit on race morning and wins the Metrop. stewards tell him if he tries that stunt again we'll consider refusing you future noms ( go figure ) , the winner of the Epsom Silver Phanton ran the mile in 1-34-22, about 1-33-2 in the metric RR he was the lovely horse in the movie The Sundowners with Deb. Kerr, and Bob Mitchum , great movie worth another look for old time's sake .Wink
