Interesting edition of the Tattersalls Gold Cup @ The Curragh tonight with Epsom Derby Winner Serpentine and fellow G1 Winner Search For A Song, along with Tiger Moth, 2nd in last years Melbourne Cup, engaged. Most of the Field appear to be a live chance, in fact 6 of the 8 most definitely
I'm hoping the Filly Cayenne Pepper can prove to be too hot for the rest This race has the likes of MAGICAL and Lancaster Bomber (Excelebration's 1/2) as the imediate past winners of the last 3 runnings |

Melbourne Cup runner-up Tiger Moth finished towards the tail of the field, was too dour for the 2100m. Duel VRC Queen Elizabeth Stakes winner True Self ran on well for the 3rd. The winner and runner-up fought it out for a tight finish. Race is below: |

Quite a wet track, half the field hated it, and one of the worst rated editions of the race the past 10 years.

Where would that race rank in the plethora of Aussie races in that distance range Jamal ? |

Well I know you rank the Doomben Cup higher. But that race was toilet water as you secretly know. As for the Tattersalls Gold Cup...not a strong race this year but better then the Doomben Cup. |

Interesting.
Racing Post rated the winners 117 Doomben, 114 for Ireland.

Djebel - yes I saw that as well. Not much between the two races. Having said that racing post done use timeform ratings but I can still see their point of view.

A decent field for this Group 1, though it took a bit less winning than it might have with 2 of the Aidan O’Brien-trained horses running poorly, the first 3 nonetheless coming clear in a race run at a good pace (finishing speed a fraction slower than par at 101%), and the ratings on the first 2 are close to the usual standard. The times were quite a bit slower than they had been the day before (Irish 2000 Guineas Day), following further rain and rather gusty conditions, the surface probably somewhere between heavy and soft in this instance. HELVIC DREAM (118 here, 114 previously) gained his revenge on Broome from the Mooresbridge here earlier in the month under a polished ride from Colin Keane, held up going well and delivered late, nosing ahead 1f out then seeming to be doing just enough and hanging on by the skin of his teeth. These conditions show him in a good light (in retrospect he may have achieved more in winning here last year and in that Mooresbridge than thought previously), and a good pace makes it easier for his jockey to deliver him as late in the piece as possible. He has the ability to trouble good rivals without quite having shown himself capable of the 120-plus rating needed at the most elite level. BROOME (118 here and previously) lost no caste in defeat by a very narrow margin, understandably having some use made of him kept to this sort of trip, soon racing in second, going on again over 2f out and running on well but just edged out of it. He should be every bit as good back at 12f, and, versatile regarding ground and tactics (and taking his racing well), should continue to give a good account at this level. TRUE SELF (113 here, 112 previously) ran as well as she ever has, and that includes her wins in Australia and Saudi Arabia that immediately preceded this, going a bit left at the start and held up, following the winner through until switched left 2f out and staying on without quite getting in a blow. She is as effective around 12f and has even won at as far as 14f. CAYENNE PEPPER (101 here, 112 previously) is likely to come on for this, a bit to find but well there (having been steadied to track the pace and going a shade freely) until left behind approaching 2f out. She ran well in 4 starts in Ireland (runner-up in the Irish Oaks and won 10f Blandford Stakes here) before being unplaced on firm going at the Breeders’ Cup. |

Basically, everything being equal, Zaaki would have won this race by about 3 to 4 lengths.
