A couple of other things - Yorkshire Cup is G2 while Duke of Norfolk is Listed as mentioned.
Also the stakes offered for the Yorkshire Cup is AUS$213,075 or as published GB£118,044 which is about half of what the Duke of Norfolk offers (AUS$400,000).

It will be an exciting race, but I am surprised each year that we don’t get a capacity field.

I had expected a few from the Bool to back up, including winner Le Don De Vie, Moonlight Maid & South Pacific.

But I wonder where these quality 4 & 5 year olds are at, as the distance & WFA conditions would seem an ideal platform to try to re-qualify for the Melb Cup:

Moonlight Maid is being aimed at a easier race. You are right many of those should be there.

Are trainers thinking the Fly in Internationals will not be here ?

Carif should have been here, but the least said about his placement the better.

To be fair these horses are being aimed at an enhanced Brisbane winter carnival.

It is not an easy race to win by any means. Many trainers would have been aware that their charges would be minor place possibilities only so are wise to look for easier pickings

So who do people think will win?

I think Persan has been managed well.

If Realm Of Flowers can win the Andrew Ramsden Stakes that means automatic qualification for the Melbourne Cup which would mean she would be the first So You Think sired horse in the race.

Nice win by Realm Of Flowers - into the Melbourne Cup. So You Think's first ever runner in the big race.

I think everyone said that about Oceanex last year Khan and she ran 11th beaten 6 lengths.

At least this stable have experience winning this and then negotiating a cup prep later in the year.

If we do not get as many internationals for this years race, she will be a top five hope.

Her run behind Favorite Moon gives us a guide and while he is nowhere near a cup horse, her own run in that race was very good.

$18.00 is a bit of an overreaction but she will get out to $41.00 or $51.00 and that is good value.

Replying to the post immediately above twice in 3 minutes with mundane 1 line responses, peak Jamal! LOL

I tend to agree with furious re her Cup hopes, they've qualified her now so they can set her to peak for the race itself rather than having to worry about getting into the field earlier in the spring.

It's a wonder the connections of Carif didn't consider this.

There's a few ways to look at it.

The Melbourne Cup is obviously a tough race.

Do you put all your eggs in the Cup basket if you win this race ?

Carif should win his way up the ratings and get in.
