Maybe what djebel says is true, Australian trainers see speed and think sprinter and if the horse is slow they think stamina, whereas their European counterparts see stamina and think stayer, and allow the speediness of the horse to determine his or her class level.

I have no doubt if the speed races were tossed to the outhouse and were programmed how they use to be in the 50s and 60s we would get sprinting bred horses to stay like Kingster , Noholme , Sky High , Wiggle, Lady Sybil, Skyline , Wenona Girl , Bounding Away , Pride of Egypt , etc etc. , where is the incentive now for a trainer to buy a staying bred youngster when their pushed toward sprinting , Everest anybody ? Ouch

As djebel constantly says Carioca, maybe that is because top class stayers have speed but with stamina alongside so are capable of performing over shorter courses?

I should have expressed my thoughts a bit better Afros , I meant our good versatile types that trainers allow to resume in sprint races before they step up to their preferred distances , by that I mean Verry Ell. going towards the MC but capable of winning at 1400 in her early prep. our trainers have been doing that for over a 100 years , they don't pigeon hole a Stayer as that , they think outside the square and it's very profitable making hay while the sun shines. Smile cheers.
