Over a 17 year period this lady lost 3.7 million of her trusted employers money. She drove a 2002 Hyundai & dressed modestly. It is estimated she turned over 20 million - or approximately $24,000 every week for 17 years. She was their number Rewards customer - & staff used to fuss around her all the time. She is now in the slammer & her long-term owner / boss - who she shared an office with - is struggling his arse off. Deary me !

Lucky we have Responsible Gambling Laws - including not inducing customers to gamble - otherwise she could have really made a mess of things

The Club in question has just spent a few million upgrading its buffet area - so at least it hasn't been a total waste

Whilst we do not want the same gambling responsible laws they are implementing in the UK at the moment we certainly need a tightening up.

Vicki was at the highest level in the rewards program which is called Pink Diamond," says Hannah. "That meant she got VIP service from a personal attendant, free soft drinks and coffee, meals from her rewards points. All those on the top rewards tier are made to feel special."
I got free soft drinks and coffee and sandwiches in the on course commission rooms in Victoria back in the 1990s, but never got rebates on tote turnover as a reward, nor was I made to "feel special ", where did I go wrong ?

Yep - starting to think the issuing of Govt issued Gambling Cards is the way to go. Both Problem Gambling & Gambling with the proceeds of crime would be better controlled. Will meet massive resistance from the usual suspects though

I'd always been a lousy tipper up until about 15 years ago. Actually enjoy giving a decent tip these days. Does wonders for your outlook. Esp like tipping those that don't expect it.

Why would you tip anyone in this country? Minimum wage laws ensure everyone earns a living wage. It is not like the USA where minimum wage is peanuts and many rely on tips to survive.
On the topic, hard to feel sorry for someone who obliterates themselves in this way.

Providing service is good we always tip around 10 % at restaurants, rounded up to next $10, if bill is over $ 100, however we cannot go to many a la carte restaurants where the bill for two courses plus coffee would be under $200 with wine, even BYO has $10 corkage at most in our part of Melbourne.

See i see so many rip offs these days - the least of my concern is tipping a waitress or a taxi driver. I hate the way medical specialists , legal types ect charge & treat the average person. Just like your on a production line - paying a fortune - with bugger all come back. I know you should have - however i think most just cop it sweet.

It’s not my job as a customer to subsidise the wages and lifestyle of a waiter. That’s the job of their employer. If they need more money, negotiate a higher wage and if that means the owner needs to pass it on through higher prices then do that and I will decide whether I’m still happy to eat there. But yes, this is low/no skill labour that doesn’t deserve high pay. And in the case of many restaurant jobs it is a simply a stage in life while they become qualified to do something that will earn them more. I can get rounding up to an even amount and I will do that if I’m paying cash because I don’t really want a wallet full of coins. But giving 10% or 15% of the bill? Why? It doesn’t require any more effort to bring out a tin of caviar than a bowl of chips.

For example - i went with my wife to a very highly regarded Sydney Private Hospital for an appointment with a very highly regarded Breast Cancer specialist. On top of her many health issues she got breast cancer 2 years ago which took her off the top of the Kidney transplant list that she had been on for 4 years. Anyhow - her 2 year check was up so she got her scans done a few weeks back for review with the specialist & had a 3 week wait to see him. We saw him about 45min past the appointment time. On walking in he said I'm glad you brought the scans with you because i haven't been sent the report from the Radiologist. So he knew he hadn't received them - yet just "hoped" my wife brought hers with her (images + report). So here we are thinking everything was ok for 3 weeks - thinking she would have been called in if it wasn't - & he hasn't even seen them. 15min & $200 later we walked out having to get another biopsy (should be ok). So as i said - slinging a waitress for running around making sure i have a good night is the least of my concerns

Tipping , slings , gratuities have been part of my life since I started work at 15 years , giving and receiving was part of " the culture " I was in , even up to 8 years ago I still tipped my favourite barmaid , the beer was on the counter before my foot was in the door , god bless her.

No point being the richest person in the grave yard. But no point just tipping for tip sake either. Talking in Australia here. If someone does something that bit extra on top of their "job" I like to let them know I appreciate it. Some cabbies I tip, and others I would like to tip a bucket of excretement over. I hate it in eateries when the bill comes and they have the place on the bottom to add the tip. I never do. If a staff member has done that bit extra for me I just hand them the tip. And I have always found if you are staying in one place for a week or so, or on a cruise for instance, always butter up the room staff at the begining. I usually had them $20 the first day and its amazing the extras they will do for you.
