Though believe a good number of those in front of her won't accept, so reckon she's already right on the cusp of getting a run.

Great win.

Are you confident she can run 3200m off that run?

She left Dr Drill to go on as if she was going win well and then he came again.

That Adelaide Cup run will be in the back of my mind when I do the form, but maybe she was over the top fitness wise when she got to Morphettville.

Update from Wilde Racing

Update on Tralee Rose: After being seen by the team at Werribee Vet Clinic, Tralee Rose has no serious injuries. There is a laceration to her hind leg that has been stitched. She will spend the night at the Vet Clinic and return to our stable in Warrnambool tomorrow.

Tralee Rose will remain at U-Vet Equine Centre on Wednesday night, one more night than first intended, with hopes to return to Warrnambool on Thursday.

The Geelong Cup winner who finished ninth was galloped on in the Melbourne Cup causing a large laceration to her hind leg that required stitches and saw her transported to Werribee following the race.

“She’s going to stay one more night, but it’s more precautionary,” trainer Symon Wilde said.

“I spoke to Dr Chris Whitton this morning and he said it might be a better idea not to travel her while the stitches are only new and she’s got a heavy bandage on.

“He said if he can minimise movement it will give him an opportunity to do a bandage change in the morning and keep her still and the antibiotics up to her.

“Once he’s done the bandage change and she’s happy we’ll travel her.

“But she’s settled in really well so there is more benefit staying an extra night.”

While it appears Tralee Rose has escaped serious injury, Wilde said things could have been different if not for a few centimetres, with original thoughts at the track much worse.

“At the races I was a little bit concerned because it probably looked worse than it was,” Wilde explained.

“Another couple of centimetres and who knows.

“We were probably a fraction disappointed but as Dean (Holland) took the saddle off and she turned around we all saw a big gash there.

“Dean said he didn’t feel anything in the run, but we could see it was bleeding profusely.

“We don’t know where it happened or when.

“It was a fair laceration and the best thing is it’s been checked out and fortunately for us she’s avoided any major damage.

“The tendons seem to be ok so that’s the most important thing.”

Wilde said Tralee Rose would be on box rest for several weeks when she returns to Warrnambool on Thursday and will then head to the spelling paddock.

“It will just be a matter of healing up the wound and she’ll spend a couple of weeks in a box here and we’ll treat that wound and hopefully everything will be ok and she can go have a well earned break,” he said.

“We’re looking at it as it could have been a hell of a lot worse.

“It’s unfortunate to happen anytime let alone in a big grand final but it could have been a whole lot worse.

“We’ll live to fight another day, get her healed up and hopefully that’s the end of it.”

Injury won’t prevent Tralee Rose returning for another crack at the Melbourne Cup next year

Tralee Rose’s first crack at the Melbourne Cup ended sadly but trainer Symon Wilde hasn’t given up on his dream of winning Australia’s greatest race with the exciting stayer.

Melbourne Cup casualty Tralee Rose is unlikely to race in the autumn but trainer Symon Wilde expects the mare to be back at Flemington next November.

Tralee Rose suffered a nasty gash on a leg when galloped on in the Melbourne Cup but still managed to finish ninth, earning $160,000 for connections.

Wilde sent Tralee Rose to the Melbourne University veterinary facility at Werribee for treatment and scans to find out the full damage to the five-year-old’s leg.

However, Wilde and Tralee Rose’s owners were relieved to find she had escaped tendon damage in the incident.

“She’s a little bit battered and bruised and she’s obviously got a lot of stitches on her back leg, but she’s avoided serious damage, which is a relief,” Wilde said.

But Wilde said Tralee Rose would be at his Warrnambool stable for up to a month before she could head out for a spell.

The delay to Tralee Rose’s spell made it impractical to prepare the stayer for an autumn campaign.

“She’s got probably a month’s box rest and rehab in front of her,” Wilde said.

“If that all goes well, she should be able to go into the paddock from there and hopefully she’ll spell as normal.

“I reckon with an injury like this, you wouldn’t want to be rushing her back.

“By the time she does the month of box rest, it would probably be really tight for time.

“We probably want to give ourselves a bit more time and make sure everything heals properly and to all the right things before we even think about bringing her back.”

While the 2021 Melbourne Cup didn’t go as planned, Wilde expected Tralee Rose would return for another crack at the great race next year.

Wilde noted the five-year-old has only had 16 starts and would only be six next season.

Verry Elleegant claimed Australian racing’s greatest prize as a six-year-old last Tuesday.

“She’s the same age as Incentivise and neither of them has many miles on the clock,” Wilde said.

“I think they have had a similar amount of starts so I think she’s a year back from where horses of her age normally would be.

“She hasn’t been overly raced so she could go until she’s six or seven.

“Verry Elleegant was six, so our mare still has a couple of years in front of her.”

• Tralee Rose - Returns to the stables last week. Resisted the temptation of being brought back for a short autumn campaign and will have a long slow build-up for the spring, to be aimed at a second Melbourne Cup start.

This girls younger full brother (Star Stock) just broke his maiden at Geelong over 2400m.

Originally started with Busuttin & Young, who failed to get anything out of him.  Sold for $8k & transferred to a proper trainer in Symon Wilde who from only 6 starts has now got a win & 2 placings out of him Clap

I’m not sure she can beat those with race fitness, also keen to see how the Perth Cup winner comes up this prep.
Thought of That is another I saw jumpout at Burrumbeet and he’ll certainly improve with the run.

Anyone have news on this mare?

Still paid up for both Cups and was entered for the Bart Cummings & Herbert Power in past weeks but didn’t accept for either.  Can only assume she’s got injury niggles that Symon Wilde is trying to get right.

Read somewhere she'd had some niggles LH but that scintillator scans hadn't discovered anything serious.  Think Wilde said he hoped to go straight into the Caulfield Cup.

Article SC refers to:

Tralee Rose is number 25 in the order of entry for the Caulfield Cup. Wilde said if it looked like she wouldn’t gain a start in the Caulfield Cup he would run her in the Herbert Power Stakes the week before at Caulfield.

Was a big fan of this mare back in 2021.

But she had an unremarkable spring campaign in 2022 & resumed for 2023 today in the Birthday Cup at Morphettville with a pretty lacklustre effort.

Doesn’t augur well for an Adelaide Cup tilt.  She’d want to show some sharp improvement at her next start, or it might be retirement & off to the breeding barn later in the year.

Had excuses, pulled up with an issue

TRALEE ROSE (NZ) (J. Holder) â€“ rider explained that the mare travelled well during the early and middle stages; however, when asked to improve from rounding the home turn, it failed to respond to his riding and was disappointing to the finish. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a haematoma on its off side shoulder. Trainer, Mr S. Wilde was advised that a Veterinary Clearance would be required prior to a future jump-out, trial or race.

Wilde Rose ride comes to an endTralee Rose will always be remembered in the highest regard by Symon Wilde and his connections after they made the decision to retire her over the weekend.

Wilde said Tralee Rose had suffered a minor tendon injury and rather than push on and rehabilitate after her disappointing first-up effort recently in Adelaide, they felt the best option was to retire her as she had done enough in her racing career.

According to Wilde, the spring of 2021 was one he won't forget with Tralee Rose, which culminated in her running ninth in the Melbourne Cup, something he says he will remember forever.

"She was my first Melbourne Cup runner. It was a terrific experience. I never thought I'd have a horse run in it. Even though she only finished ninth, that's what dreams are made of," Wilde said.

"It's still Australia's greatest race and for a small stable like mine, to get a runner in it with a cheap buy from New Zealand, who we cherry picked, against all those European horses, is something I'll always be proud of. The whole experience was something to savour.

"That prep leading into the Melbourne Cup was such a great ride. We were pinching ourselves that entire spring preparation of 2021 as she was placed in the Heatherlie, the Naturalism, The Bart Cummings and then she won the Geelong Cup.

"That also was an amazing experience as there's a number of people from Geelong in her and although they couldn't go due to COVID restrictions, they were still over the moon.

"That whole preparation was amazing for us all."

Wilde said Tralee Rose's other memorable performances were her wins in the 2021 Bagot Handicap and the 2021 Lord Reims Stakes.

"She was a special horse for us," Wilde said.

Tralee Rose won six races from 21 starts and $910,050 in prizemoney.
