Has considerable ability though in truth a 3rd Grade stayer in top company.  Which suggests another win in the race on Saturday will have JudgeHolden and Jamal fair dinkum slavering with delight.

I look forward to Jamal telling us how the Europeans are superior to Australians over a trip regardless of who wins the Zipping and Sandown Cup.

I wouldn't write him off SC.

He had good form overseas last year against top group 1 company. He will not come up against a true group 1 or even gp 2 field here.

Ciaron Maher is mulling over whether Southern France will try to defend his Zipping Classic or head to the Ballarat Cup instead.

The former import hasn't raced since March, with Maher wary of asking the six-year-old gelding to run over 2400m first-up.

Southern France was an impressive winner of the race in 2019, but the lure of running over 2000m at Ballarat might change Maher's mind.

"I'm not sure what we will do there yet. We will let a little bit more water go under the bridge," he said.

"It might be a bit of a stretch, the 2400m first-up. So maybe the Ballarat Cup might be a better option for him."

Maher did, however, confirm Lord Belvedere would run in the Zipping Classic.

"He had a nice stretch of the legs and worked really well (on Tuesday morning). It might be a nice race for him," Maher said.

Meanwhile, Etah James will contest the Sandown Cup.

The Sydney Cup winner will be ridden by champion hoop Glen Boss.

"She was pretty right for the (Melbourne) Cup. But it is only going to be her fourth run in, so she's off a pretty light campaign," Maher said.

"Bossy won the Sydney Cup on her and he jumped on her this morning and was really happy with how she felt.

"She looks really well and I think she's ready to run a really big race."

Looking to avoid hard tracks he resumes from a long break today in Sydney.
Stable are looking to see him hitting the line.
Targeting the Tancred Stakes.

Is he going to the Sydney Cup?

Thought he was stretching out nicely in the closing stages of the Tancred Stks, at only his 2nd run in 12 months.

Currently 20/1 for the Sydney Cup.

Very nice trial Lord, but this Cup will be a very strong edition.

She's Ideel, Miami Bound, Spirit Ridge, The Chosen One, Sound, Sharaaoh, Mirage Dancer.

If we get the predicted rain, Miami Bound and The Chosen One would be my two, but if it is dry we Southern France comes right in to it.

This will be a very good race if everyone shows up.

$1.40 about Incentivise, no thanks!!

I’ll take the $5 about Southern France. Sure his last run was only mediocre but this campaign he’s been 4 Len behind Verry Eleegant in the Chipping Norton Stks & 4 Len behind Sir Dragonet in the Tancred Stks.

On another note, what a shallow G3 race.  Where are the likes of Carif, Warning & Le Don De Vie?  These horses are going to be ‘also rans’ in the Spring, so why not focus on races like today’s Tattersalls Cup?

I was way off the mark with this guy.  Really poor run today.

Maybe he can only put together short 2-3 start preps or maybe he’s got issues?  But definitely a difficult horse to place moving forward.

Has had soundness issue in the past. Bone chips removed and feet troubles more recently, hence being stabled in Sydney full time as he doesn't go on the hard ground in Melbourne.

Stewards report confirms he has pulled up injured again

SOUTHERN FRANCE – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be sore in the near fore fetlock. Trainer C Maher was advised that a veterinary certificate would be required prior to the gelding starting again.

Caught up with Darren Dance the other day and he was telling me that despite the horse having a year off, he has never actually been out of work since he arrived, has always been on the move around Ciaron's various properties.

They've had the vets go over him and haven't been able to find anything physical, think that it might all be mental.

He's heading back to Victoria and will go to Darren's property near Ballarat where he will spend six months in a paddock to let down and just be a horse. Will then re-assess and look to bring him back into work around Christmas time to target the Autumn.

Sold for $75,000 at the latest Inglis Digital sale.

Ogle racing is the buyer, not sure where they’re based?

Subsidiary of Darren Dance and his ATB business

They’re buying out the other partners and re-syndicating for themselves. Wink

Probably not a bad choice for this guy. Matt has done really well with imports (particularly at 2400+) in recent years.

2019 Sandown Classic winner makes his hurdle debut for Declan Maher in R1 at Warrnambool tomorrow.

The horse hasn’t shown anything on the flat for years, so it will be interesting to see if jumping has sparked up his interest in still being a racehorse.
