I posted this on the Racing Forum about the 1883 Melbourne Cup, but think it is appropriate to post it on Joffs All Sports Bar as a few contributors to Joffs might qualify...

"Although it was 137 years ago when Martini Henri won that Cup one owner of another runner must have have a premonition that TBV would have a few contributors of dubious intellect as he named a horse Claptrap."

SC, you can go straight through to the semi finals you can skip the early qualifying rounds . LOL

That video should be in the laundry basket, not the topic of this thread. If that is considered music and she is hot I give up.

Probably the greatest to go around at Flemington in the 19th Century, was the some-time jockey, and I think a poet of great note, Adan Lindsay Gordon, who has left us with this gem, which I remind myself of from time to time......

“Life is mostly froth and bubble,
Two things stand like stone.
Kindness in another's trouble,
Courage in your own.”

Bob is clearly of the old school of which I'm probably one, and who's rhyming mantra might well be "voices sell, groins ...."

Just a pity the performer or her manager feels in necessary to go the gyration route.

Max this is the Laundry Basket, and posts should ideally reflect that reality.

And thus I sincerely apologize if I've failed to offend anyone.

Just the sire of the horse named in the OP that djebel so kindly supplied the breeding of. A lot of interesting stories around him, his MC win, other Tims in the same race etc.

Ah.  That is a different Tim again !

The one in djebel's chart is Tim Whiffler (GB) (1859 By Van Galen (GB) from Sybil (Ire))who was also the sire of the champion filly Briseis and another Melbourne Cup winner in Darriwell.

The one you have the form chart for is Tim Whiffler (AUS) (1862 New Warrior (GB) - Cinderella) otherwise known as Sydney Tim to distinguish him from 'Melbourne Tim' Whiffler (1862 South Australian - Miss Cracknell).  They both started in the 1867 Melbourne Cup won by 'Sydney Tim'.

'Sydney Tim' was  a useful sire but not in the same league as 'Pommy Tim'.

'Sydney Tim' produced the 1881 Great Northern Derby winner (1877 out of Parachute) who went by the name of.... you guessed it....Tim Whiffler !

NB : Tim Whiffler was the name of several maritime transports, one of them a regular immigrant ship to the colonies.
