There's a reason for that.

Gai follows the lead from most punters. That is, that horses that can lead, or be near the lead, tend to win more races than those that come from behind and have to rely on the pace of the race to win.

Gai/Adrian's horses are usually sent towards the front, but to win, especially in high quality races, they have to be very efficient, have the cruising speed to maintain their position and then a very good kick to outlast the rest in the end.

Deep come-from-behind closers, including closing sprinters, tend to be ones that are less efficient and have to settle into a race, get a rhythm and then win via late momentum. They cant do it any other way, because their body isn't built for it.

The more efficient horse (leader, or near leader) has the best chance of replicating itself. Thus, those from Gai's stable that are good enough to make it as stallions, especially the sprinters, have very efficient bodies, and this efficiency is heritable.

Agree, Gai’s a force of nature and incredibly successful.
But, when I’m having a wager, there are two spots I dread to see my horse in running, that being first or last. Wonder what the stats are on front runners? In general, not just Gai’s

Brogers comment reminded me of a well-respected bloodstock agent who generally advised against using stallions that won their races charging from the rear of the field

Lucky Winx wasn't a stallion!  It goes both ways.  Durbridge was a leader through and through and made no impression at stud.
