This colt won the Up and Coming Stakes by panels today and is probably early favorite for the Golden Rose.  By Brazen Beau from the unraced Up In Lights by O'Reilly.  Nice enough female family but hardly outstanding.

When he was offered for sale the dam had three progeny of racing age, for just one placegetter which remains a maiden.  The other two haven't won either.  Those three brought $47,500, P/I and $65,000 as yearlings.

And what do you know, the colt is knocked down for $800,000!  He must certainly have been a truly magnificent type given what's described above.

I remember watching that sale, Melb Premier. He was about Lot 5 and the little ex jockey bloke from Orbis just kept bidding. Dunno who the underbidder was. The Orbis bloke and many others said it was the standout, an absolute cracker.

Brazen Beau throws some crackers of yearlings. This one even better on the track than in the salering. He is going well Brazen Beau. Branders Rule was a top run in the Vain Stakes too.

Is H Field taking the piss with today's press release( It Is April 1) re North Pacific
$22K for a very average mudder.
Measure him not by who beat him but by who he beat. That is quite a pedestrian group

The current crop of early 3YO retirees are certainly a mob of suspect cream puffs. Sale companies & some studs should be ashamed of themseves. Especially in the future when they attempt to extoll the virtues of such a disparate mob of future stallions

Take note of the major studs who aren't indulging in the current overhyped retirement marketting

They can be ashamed of themselves but it is the stupid broodmare owners who are the fools.

I am a Newgate fan but the whole media release/video/announcement felt forced. Like Orbis had set the fee and then demanded that Newgate do the marketing to justify. If you need to parade him at the Easter sales to justify the $20K on type, then you're already in trouble.

He is a belter of a type but as was rightly pointed out by SC at the time he sold, it's scarcely a stallions pedigree. That coupled with BB being patchy and this three year old crop being decidedly dodgy, he does look overpriced.

He's a belter of a type but he's not got a stallions pedigree. I mean, he's by Iglesia and he only won the Todman beating a small field and he never won another race after that.....

The difference being that Written Tycoon kicked off his career at $6,600 and noms were being given away for free to give him a chance. I’m not begrudging North Pacific having his chance at stud, I’m quibbling with the fee.

C'mon Byron for somebody who makes a living out of horse pedigrees surely your not going to overlook what W. T's. female lines brought to the table that suited so many Oz mares

Even allowing for the success of O'reilly not sure that N.P's. female antecedents will be as complementary

Not saying he won't sire winners.
His physique & marketing will give him a good start but the duration of time will how where he fits

Glencoe to be fair to North Pacific, he's from the female family of Keeper.  While that one wasn't a Centaine or Zabeel, he was a solid, useful sire of quality runners.  Kind of like the Al Maher or Artie Schiller of the central Waikato.  It's good to see that kind of stallion production in a family.

Between his dam line, the comments I made previously about Invincible Spirit line in NZ, and the fact that his wins/best runs were on bog tracks, I still think he'd be better off standing in NZ.

My filly Sixtyfourth Street is booked on a date with him.
She'll have another couple of starts in NSW to try and snag her maiden first.
This is my first attempt having a share in a breeding prospect but have enjoyed the journey so far with this filly.

Karl and Susan Kennedy are my heroes
