Already 46 scratching from the Ballarat meeting on the synthetic, only 6 of them emergencies who didn't get a run. Surely a reason to have more emergencies given fields are restricted to 12 starters with a number of races having rather less than the maximum.

I think the large number of scratchings is because it was changed from turf track to synthetic yesterday (acceptances were Thursday)

I could hardly believe my eyes on seeing 'synthetic' when we've had less than an inch since June 11 (4mls) & that's within 100mts of the back straight
 Trainers accepted knowing full well the likeliehood of a heavy surface which most would be hoping for considering we are in the middle of winter! Fwiw, I'd rate my paddocks as a Heavy 8, not that it helps any of those who've scratched due to the surface transfer  |
