He was bought by P.Kennedy for $16000

Does anybody know who this might be ?

Whilst I hope he finds a home at stud is he completely ruled out from a return to racing ?

Family of James Kennedy? As in Kennedy Racing Group? Other than that possibility I have no idea.

Ryland looks to make mark

James Tzaferis

, (

Just like its racing cousin, breeding horses is a game of risk and for Luke Ryland, he's just taken a big one.

This season, Ryland and his fiancee Bec Hausler will attempt to make the transition from racing enthusiasts, owners and casual breeders to stud masters with the establishment of Ryland Thoroughbreds.

The pair has set up a farm in Lethbridge, 30km north-west of Geelong, and will stand two stallions, America and Frankel My Dear.

Ryland said that while he'd love to breed Stakes winners in time, the focus would initially be on enjoying the process and providing opportunities for like-minded owner-breeders to get involved at an affordable entry point.

"It's pretty exciting for both Bec and I," Ryland said.

"It's something we've been thinking about and discussing for the last two years.

"We've obviously been breeding our own mares for quite a few years now.

"It's going to be a lot of hard work but we're hoping it's something that can set us up for the future.

"We don't want to be a big-scale commercial operation, we just want to have a boutique stud where we can breed to race our own horses for fun and enjoyment and provide other owner-breeders the same sort of opportunity.

"For us, it doesn't matter if it's a race in town or a picnic race, if we can breed a winner and get that photo on the wall, it'll be a great result."

Initially, the couple planned to stand only America, who was recently acquired from Rosden Park in South Australia, where he served more than 70 mares over three seasons.

A blueblood son of Snitzel out of star race filly Alingi, the entire is closely related to Beneteau, who sired two Group 1 winners from only two crops of foals.

But a chance encounter with the buyer of Frankel My Dear, who was purchased for $16,000 online from Inglis Digital's offering in May, saw their roster double in size.

"It all started when we bought two broodmares in foal to America from Rosden Park in South Australia," he said.

"I was asking a few questions about the stallion which stood there and there ended up being an opportunity for us to bring him back to Victoria to stand at the farm.

"He's a quality horse with an amazing pedigree - he sold for $ 1.8 million as a yearling but injury meant we never got to see the best of him on the racetrack.

"He stood three seasons in South Australia and from all reports his progeny are very exciting.

"We're also standing the only son of Frankel to stand at stud in Australia, Frankel My Dear, who was purchased from a recent Inglis Digital Sale."

America will stand for $ 4400 and Frankel My Dear for $ 6600.

Injury had nothing to do with America's retirement.  He was simply very, very slow.

Indeed similar to Frankel My Dear.

Race record: 16-2:1:0.  Give us a break.

You'd think breeders with a death wish could secure a nomination to him for a case of VB or the dollar equivalent thereof.

Australian breeders need to be smarter and think outside racetrack performance,

Australian trainers are of such poor quality race track performance is virtually meaningless.
