If you scroll through those 30 pages you will soon realize even your pet dog, cat or bird can give you nasty illnesses.

A relative of mine got recurrent fevers, and a cause could not be determined, but I'm not sure she told doctors of her fondness for holding her cats up near her face.

Many diseases are transmitted by mosquitoes alone, and some are not well understood. In the end, a depleted immune system will allow any number of diseases to take hold, some potentially deadly microbes are found in very large numbers of people, but kept at bay by a well-functioning immune system, a good example is Meningococcal Disease, which is said to be present in vast numbers of people, but few get the full-blown disease.

Legionella is another commonly found in potting mix. Always wear gloves handling it.
