Maher-Eustace 'excited' about Puissance

David Eustace has revealed that his stable has Group 1 goals for progressive stayer Heart Of Puissance, who is the favourite for the Group 3 Premier's Cup at Kembla Grange on Saturday.

"We're excited to see him run," said Eustace, who trains with Ciaron Maher.

"He's raced well throughout the winter; we gave him a little bit of a freshen for the spring.

"The Metropolitan's been the plan for a little while, obviously amongst other races, we just identified the race as most likely to have some give in the ground and under handicap conditions at that level, he should carry a low weight.

"He's probably got to win another race to get in, I would think, or that would be borderline, hopefully it's Saturday, if it's not, there's another race for him in three weeks."

Heart Of Puissance hasn't raced since he easily accounted for his rivals in a Benchmark 84 handicap at Flemington over 2500m in late May.

His recent trial win at Cranbourne further suggested that he's returned in good order from his time off.

Heart Of Puissance is a $3.80 chance in Sportsbet's market for Saturday's 2000-metre contest in Sydney this weekend and $15 for The Metropolitan.

He's also entered for the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups.

Winning isn't everything, it's the only thing

Very good today running 2nd to a very handy one of Lloyds.

Wonder if he’ll trek back up to NSW for the Metropolitan Hcp?  Or stay in VIC for the any of the RM Ansett Classic, Bart Cummings Hcp or Herbert Power?

Ciaron has got a lot of nice stayers to decide how to split up.

I imagine it'll be weather dependent but they've said all along his target is the Metrop.

Unfortunately picked up a minor leg injury.  So he’s heading for a spell & will miss the Spring.

Pleasing return by this stallion today in the 1700m race at the Bool.

Not sure what the plans are at this time of the year, maybe Brisbane winter carnival en route a Grafton Cup in early July.

Anyway let’s hope he can stay injury free this prep

Read somewhere that this horse has been transferred to Maddie Raymond.

She seems like an excellent young trainer, but a change of stable seems a little surprising given the hard work that Maher Eustace have already put into getting the horses health issues right and racing well.

Anyway, will be interesting to see how he goes under Maddie’s care.

His soundness issues have been well documented & I wasn't the least bit surprised on reading (maybe in the Maddie thread) he'd been transferred to the beach, it may've even been a mutual agreement.

First run for Maddie Raymond in R8 at Flemington today.

Look forward to seeing how he goes this prep under her training.

He’s a really talented horse but geez he’s had more than his fair share of issues.
