Emmanuel is the leader of an ultra-conservative sect of the Assyrian Orthodox faith who took on an outsized role in the Christian Lives Matter movement.

He preached fire and brimstone in services that were livestreamed and attracted hardline Christians for his anti-LGBTQ sermons and pandemic scepticism.

Federal MP for Fowler Dai Le, whose south-west Sydney electorate includes the Christ The Good Shepherd Church, said her community was stunned by the stabbing, especially as it occurred only two days after the Westfield Bondi Junction mass stabbings.

“This has shocked us,” she said.

She described Emmanuel as a “wonderful bishop leading the Assyrian community”.

“He’s increased his followers tremendously,” she said.

Fowler has one of the country’s biggest Assyrian communities, including many members who fled war-torn Iraq for a safer life in Australia.

“We have one of the most multi-faith communities in country,” she said.“I do not believe we will be divided by this.”

Jujuno, Poor mum maybe didnt know or say, that he had been advertising online and working as an escort, for both males and females, for some time.
The day they closed down the asylums, and put the mental health patients out on the streets, with a handful of prescriptions and advice to continue taking them, was a sad day for society.
What should have happened was a royal commission re the running of said facilities and a total shake up done to improve the conditions and management. Instead our inept govt decides they cost too much to run and put them in the too hard basket and closes them down. What a shambles.

The trouble is...just because someone has a mental illness, it does not necessarily follow that they will hurt or injure others.

There are many types of mental illness.

It never ends. A car just crashed through a fence and smashed into the flats directly across the street from us.

I now know several new neighbours, since the entire street came out to witness the mess.

The charges include domestic violence offences of unlawful stalking or intimidation, breaking into a dwelling with intent at night, common assault, assault occasioning bodily harm and choking or suffocation.

Slater  is facing stalking charges after being accused of bombarding the woman with around 300 texts from December last year until April 13.

Slater's messages allegedly saw him call her an 'escort', 's**t' and 'c**t' as he threatened to kill himself in some of the texts.

'Get f**ked, you're a fraud, I'm going to hang my skull at the front of your house. How does that f**king feel you c**t? You f**king killed me,' he is accused of writing.

Police have alleged Slater hit the woman in the face as she sat on the couch at his Noosa address after she came over to check on his welfare when he texted her to say 'I fell and think I've broke my rib,' according to News Corp.

The blow made her eye swell up before he allegedly kicked her in the leg, making her fall over, before raising a vodka bottle above his head and saying, 'I'll f**king kill you.'

When the woman tried to get away from him, Slater allegedly grabbed her by the throat and slammed her against a fridge.

He is also accused of lifting her by the neck until she couldn't breathe after pushing her into a sink and washing machine.

It is alleged Slater called the woman on April 12 this year to say he was in a mental health facility, then smashed a window at her house and entered the address after repeatedly saying 'f**k you' and 'where's your daughter?'

The ex-star grabbed her arm 'firmly' before police took him to hospital to treat an injury he sustained breaking the window.

Legal Aid solicitor Michael Robinson on Tuesday told the court his client planned to reside in a rehab facility in Sydney if released from custody.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Brendan Newman said court orders, prior court sentences and grants of bail had not deterred Mr Slater.

Maroochydore Magistrates Court was told Mr Slater denied any allegations of violence against the complainant.

The court was told part of Mr Slater's alleged offending involved "serious" acts of violence against the complainant, some of which was captured on CCTV at the home.

Sergeant Newman said Mr Slater can allegedly be heard on the tape repeatedly screaming "f**k you" and verbally abusing the complainant, before smashing a window.

The victim was then allegedly assaulted in the home by Mr Slater, he said.

"She's pleading with him to stop repeatedly, she's in a state of undress, cowering, clearly scared for her safety," Sergeant Newman told the court.

"We say the strength of the evidence is good."

Bail was ultimately refused, with magistrate Raelene Ellis.

"Some of these offences were committed within 24 hours of the first court appearance date for other hours," she said.

After making his debut during the 1993 Ashes tour, Slater played 74 Tests for Australia, amassing 5312 runs at an average of 42.83 with 14 centuries.

He also played 42 one-day internationals.

Slater retired from cricket in 2004, embarking on a successful TV commentary career.

Parishioners apprehended a 16-year-old who is now in police custody, but the incident sparked fury in the community with a large crowd gathering outside the church, surging rapidly from about 50 to 500 people. It was initially reported that the teen was 15-years-old.

Two police were injured, one suffering a broken jaw.

Upwards of 100 police and more than 30 police vehicles swarmed the area, including specialist officers and the police helicopter.

Footage from the scene showed capsicum spray being used at one stage to try to disperse the crowd.

It also appeared that police at one point used a ladder to break down a door in order to reach ambulance workers who were sheltering behind it.

Police Commissioner Karen Webb said police were attacked with fence palings, concrete, and bricks. Twenty police cars were damaged, 10 of them to the point of being "unusable".

By the time it was deemed safe enough to remove the teenager from the church, police whisked him away to an undisclosed location for his own safety, Acting Assistant Commissioner Andrew Holland said last night.

Separate strike forces have now been established to investigate the stabbing and the riot, but Webb confirmed no "special powers" had yet been sought.

Additional police patrols will also be deployed throughout the community.

This morning, Premier Chris Minns, Commissioner Webb, and Ambulance Commissioner Dominic Morgan, condemned the violence that erupted among the crowd.

Dr Morgan said six paramedics had been blockaded in the church, unable to leave for fear of their own safety.

The 16-year-old accused of carrying out the attack also suffered injuries to his hand. Investigators have spoken to his parents.

Webb said he was known to police, but that he had not been on any terror watch list.

It's believed he was acting alone.

Webb said the teen allegedly made comments "centred around religion" as he approached the bishop.

Sounds like a riot by the good parishoners last night.  Where  was that police woman when they needed her Wink

The ABC can reveal the boy was charged with a range of offences, including possessing a knife, in November last year after an incident at a Sydney train station involving other teenage boys.  He was on bail until his last court appearance in January, where his case was "proven" but dismissed with a good behaviour bond.

From yesterday's General Cricket thread:

This bloke has been a smoking gun for 25 years, earlier ignored by Cricket Australia and later suppressed by Channel 9 for obvious commercial reasons:
