One of the worst calls I’ve ever seen. Same steward at the helm when another iffy protest was awarded last months at the Gold Coast

Stewards to review bewildering protest decision

Queensland stewards are set to review a protest decision which sensationally saw a horse stripped of a race, despite winning by more than a length while eased down.

In what has been described as one of the most incredible protest decisions by stewards, trainer David Murphy's Beachside Babe lost a race at Beaudesert in Saturday after it was alleged jockey Andrew Spinks caused interference at the 300m mark.

Murphy aired his dismay at the decision after the race, telling Racenet: "I almost fell off my chair".

After widespread ridicule, the Queensland Racing Integrity Commission announced on Monday they would look into the decision.

"The Commission will review the processes around the decision from Saturday at Beaudesert, as it does around all decisions," a QRIC statement said.

The successful protest saw the "battling" connections of Beachside Babe miss out on $22,000 in prizemoney as she is a QTIS-qualified filly.

"They are devastated – one of them is a gardener who bought her for a few thousand dollars and the other guy is retired, it is out of control," Murphy said of the connections.

Can only be incompetent beyond belief.
Or corrupt.

Either warrants immediate dismissal

How pathetic. Nothing against Des Gleeson but he is long retired. How incredibly incompetent must the Qld stewards be to have to create a “Big Brother” role to check their work.
Arrogant, entitled and incompetent seems to be the best way to describe the current situation in QLD.

Gambling has brought our family closer together. We had to move to a smaller house.
