Welcome back Isaac!

If you have the time, could you please clear something up for the forum. Are you male or female? And if the latter, why did you choose a male name (Isaac) as your original (that we know of) screen name?

Thanks for your help. Thumbs Up

Yes I am female and frankly almost ashamed to admit it as surrounded by d!ckhead females! Above poster a case in point.
They act as though threatened, but that is another story.....

Isaac was an old honest thoroughbred I had from a yearling
and Solomon his brother a better racehorse who died young;  held a class and track record and then 2 weeks later dropped dead in work.

Thanks for clearing that up. Makes sense. Although the added abuse of another member doesn’t. Had nothing to do with my question at all. Confused

Now Sunny, please start a new China thread because I used to enjoy reading the articles you posted (in full) rather than the usual predictable, unoriginal, unprincipled, sophomoric, attention seeking twaddle from many on here.

Why a desperate China has backflipped on Australian coal

By business editor Ian Verrender

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-07-18/why-china-backflipped-on-australian-coal/101246166

Shortly before the data was released, and without warning, word leaked out via news agency Bloomberg that China was considering relaxing its ban on Australian coal, apparently after a mild thaw in relations following the election of the Albanese government and the first official discussions in three years between the foreign ministers.

As plausible as that may sound, the more likely explanation is that, with China's economy in danger of going off the rails, Beijing can no longer afford to inflict upon itself the kind of self-harm its trade sanctions have wreaked.

An honest politician is one who when he is bought will stay bought.

Outrage in China over 'disgusting' viral comedy routine on Australia's Got Talent - but the judges say it's 'one of the funniest acts' they've ever seen

Chinese viewers have slammed a comedy act on Australia's Got Talent after it went viral on social media.

He Huang's, 32, comedy routine on the show was filled with taboo topics including Covid-19 origins and a 'lady's status'.

While some Australians found her act entertaining, many Chinese viewers weren't so impressed and slammed He on Chinese social media platform Weibo.

Canadian government unveils new Indo-Pacific strategy to counter Chinese influence

The Government of Canada has advanced on Sunday its new strategic plan for the Indo-Pacific region that contemplates an investment of approximately 2 billion euros in maritime security, information technology, and cooperation with its regional allies, to combat the influence of China, which it describes as an "increasingly disruptive power on the global scene".

"China's emergence has been enabled by the very international rules and norms it now increasingly ignores," warns the official document picked up by the CBC network, and presented in part by Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly.

This rise, argues the Canadian government, "has had an enormous impact on the Indo-Pacific" and Beijing now "has ambitions to become the leading power in the region" through "large-scale investments to consolidate its economic influence, diplomatic impact and offensive military capabilities"."China seeks to shape the international order into a more permissive environment for interests and values that increasingly diverge from our own," Canada warns. The €2 billion will be accompanied by proposed legislation to amend investment regulations to prevent state-owned enterprises and other foreign entities that threaten Canada's national security from taking over critical Canadian industries and intellectual property.

In addition, all federal departments will be ordered to review their Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) with China and other countries to ensure that Canada's national interests are protected.

Similarly, the new strategy ratifies the alliance with Taiwan with the Canadian government opposing "any unilateral action that threatens the 'status quo' across the strait."

This strategy document has been years in the making and Canada's regional allies, such as Japan and South Korea, had been awaiting its presentation for months as a gesture of closer relations.

BBC says Chinese police assaulted one of its journalists at Shanghai protest

The British Broadcasting Company (BBC) has said that Chinese police assaulted and detained one of its journalists covering a protest in Shanghai, before later releasing him after several hours.

"The BBC is extremely concerned about the treatment of our journalist Ed Lawrence, who was arrested and handcuffed while covering the protests in Shanghai," a spokesperson for the British public service broadcaster said in a statement.

"He was held for several hours before being released. During his arrest, he was beaten and kicked by the police. This happened while he was working as an accredited journalist," the spokesperson added.

Shanghai is one of a number of Chinese cities that has seen protests over stringent COVID restrictions, which flared in recent days following a deadly fire in the country's far west.

Footage on social media showed a man whom other journalists identified as Lawrence being arrested by men in police uniforms.

The BBC said it had not been given a credible explanation for Lawrence's detention.

"We have had no official explanation or apology from the Chinese authorities, beyond a claim by the officials who later released him that they had arrested him for his own good in case he caught COVID from the crowd," the BBC said.

Apple faces disaster as insider claims six million iPhone Pros will be lost this year over China chaos

An insider has made the shocking claim that Apple will lose millions of its most popular product this year, with the chaos costing $1.5 billion a week.Apple is set to face a staggering shortfall of six million iPhone Pros – its most popular product – as a result of spiralling Covid lockdown chaos in China, an insider has claimed.

Foxconn, Apple’s main subcontractor, locked down its huge factory in Zhengzhou in October as a result of surging Covid cases, in line with China’s zero-Covid policy.

Since then, the factory – which is the world’s largest producer of iPhones, and is widely known as “iPhone City” with a workforce of 200,000 – has also been hit by further mayhem after violent protests broke out over the lockdown, pay and living conditions, which saw employees clashing with security at the plant.

Footage also emerged earlier this month showing panicked workers fleeing the factory on foot over allegedly poor conditions, while videos of the protests also went viral, leaving the international community shocked.Earlier this month, Apple confirmed the ongoing turmoil had “temporarily impacted” production ahead of the holiday season, and warned of delays ahead.

“The facility is currently operating at significantly reduced capacity,” Apple said in a statement.

“Customers will experience longer wait times to receive their new products.”

However, an insider has now claimed the impacts will be far more severe than initially thought – a development which could be catastrophic as the Christmas shopping period fast approaches.https://www.news.com.au/finance/business/manufacturing/apple-faces-disaster-as-insider-claims-six-million-iphone-pros-will-be-lost-this-year-over-china-chaos/news-story/3c2ee6147e9737ffe725a6612537dc80
