Will stand at Swettenham for $15,000 +GST.

Did Elvis do a stint at Blue Gum? Wonder if those owners would come again?

Yes, Elvis used to stand at Blue Gum.

I think it is brilliant that Sangster has been able to get this boy for Vic, and at a really suitable price. Should hopefully get a nice book.

Elvis, Haradasun, Starspangledbanner, Il Cavallo (to a lesser extent)... there are genuine concerns there. Enough, I suppose, for a GLOBAL star like him to enter the market at $15k.

Not that there isn’t still a glimmer of hope for the aforementioned, but nature is doing its best to highlight an issue in the family. At least the marketing (as a son of Galileo, rather than relation to some Australian superstars), suggests they have a plan of attack to address these concerns.

I hope it works out. I was a massive fan of the racehorse.

I remember when Blue Gum had Encosta DL for approx  $8,000, or there abouts, very early in his career.   They do seem to be able to get a good horse.LOLWink

Freshman Sire Highland Reel has hit the track running with his Highland Premiere

Freshman Sire Highland Reel Off The Mark at Hamilton

Coolmore's Highland Reel (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) became the latest European freshman sire off the mark when the Mark Johnston-trained even-money favourite Highland Premiere (GB) shed maiden status in Thursday's EBF Restricted Novice S. going a... [To read this entire TDN News Story, click here.]

Did quite well in his first NH season with 12 winners from 45 starters.

No good in Ireland or France with 1 from 16, 7 from 18 in the UK but mostly lower grade races, and 4 from 8 in Germany including a Gp3 winner.

Goodness knows how he'll go here.

Hi Folks,
Swettenham Stud still have the majority of the Southern Hem rights so for as long as they want him he will go to them every season.
A family of absolute brilliant top shelf race horses, but unfortunately none in the immediate family have made the grade as Stallions.

Ciao For Now Old Flight

Starspangledbanner descends from a half-sister to Circles of Gold--he's a very useful stallion even with his well-known fertility issues.

So I got curious and went looking at how daughters of Marscay and their descendants are going as producers of sires.

Circles of Gold
Elvestroem, Haradasun, and now Highland Reel -- nothing special
Altius -- just getting started

Bint Marscay

Benecio -- same, didn't do much in a short career at stud
Friesan Fire -- got a few good ones from early crops in the USA but otherwise nothing special
Villermont -- just getting started, oldest are 2

Canny Miss:
Sepoy -- all the opportunity in the world, nothing special as a sire
Bivouac, Encryption -- just getting started, no runners
Ghibellines -- has one standout horse in Smokin Romans, big fish in a small pond on the South Island of NZ

Triscay:
Astern -- looks like he might be the one to break the trend
Tsuimai -- didn't do much in his very short career at stud
Tassort -- just getting started, no runners

Market Maid:
Denman -- solid bread-and-butter racehorse sire

Fitting:
Danbird -- nothing special
Catbird -- looked like the trend-beater but died young

Highest:
Exosphere -- nothing special

Yodells:
Iglesia -- It's hard to say because he died young, but he left one exceptional son in Written Tycoon.  That said, Written Tycoon comes from a solidly-producing Woodlands mare line

Of the ones with at least two crops of racing age, that makes 10 who are nothing special, two who looked like they were off to a good (or good enough) start but died young, and Astern who is off to a fair start and may buck the trend.

I missed SSB and I think he is a Cracking Stallion who has performed despite many well known issues
