Won only at 70% at his best today I reckon. Did what he had to do. Plenty of people were spooked by the trials - not sure why.....it wasn't bad...it was good enough. No need to hammer horses in trials...save that for raceday. The trials were to blow the cobwebs out.

Good win.

I think there were legit concerns about him handling the noise, different track etc, but he was relaxed pre race and had no pressure in the run. Way better than the others who had everything in their favour against him.

Purton sounded like he was considering retirement in his comments after the race. Has he ever made noises like that before?

He was more than 80% fit before the trial, that he took benefit from.

He was storming home but didn't think he was well placed by running in that race when there's plenty of other options at this time of year.

Sydney racing has really overtaken victorian racing now in a big way. You can tell with the quality of good horses nowdays most the really good ones are trained in Sydney.

We have a weaker 2yo crop.  The Victorians won all the big races this season.

Please correct me if I am wrong, but it is my understanding that Sydney has been the place where more high priced yearlings has been going for a very long time.

yea that just proves the trend in strength towards Sydney racing. There will always be solid racing in VIC but the gap seems to be widening

Well, maybe.  I guess I was just suggesting that because PVL has thrown millions of racing industry dollars at pop up races has not changed the overall trend.  Not questioning the success of the Everest, it been a huge success, but what PVL has done will be judged over decades.

Oh and by the way, Melbourne horses just ran 1-2 in Sydney's premier 2yo race.

There will always be the NSW/Vic rivalry. To the owners and trainers it’s not even a consideration.

Place your horse where it can win the maximum prizemoney available, doesn’t matter where it is.

I’ll guarantee that if the Towong Cup was a slot race with $20M prizemoney, the best horses in the land would descend on NE Vic. At a track where the facilities, colour and experience for racegoers would beat Randwick or Flemington hands down.

I may be biased though…and I’m not a fan of slot races - especially if they are given black type status.
