Dont be too hard on him VSP - he is actually a half decent bloke. Its just when he gets on the bad point of his cycle that he struggles.

I admit your small minded carping and the way the truth came out, not respect for the fires' victims etc just that you don't like fireworks and have always looked upon them as a waste of money. Hiding behind the tragedy of Australia burning is a pretty low act IMO

Fishfinger obviously swallowed his sourpuss pill, this morning.

I bloody hate the fireworks every year...but this year was disrespectful...

wow - now that is below the belt even for you whale. On that note I'll leave you to your petty small minded 'victory' or however you view your nasty insults.
Please dont bother to interact with me on the forums any further, I can't deal with your level of nasty.

Can't see how I insulted you but I guess an insult is in the eye of the subject. In that case I apolgise

Why the aversion to the facts?

We have Vivid every year, and people like that as well ... but they come out for the fireworks in huge numbers ... sorry to upset you.Ouch

The only way to see if an alternative might work for far less cost is to try it.Heck it may even bring in more tourist / visitor dollars because it is a change.

It's a public service VSP ... it helps satisfy the cravings of the pyromaniacs, reducing the risk of fires.

Lasers simply don't stack up.

How do you know how the cost of a laser show would compare to fireworks ?
But, the financial benefit to who, exactly ?  Not those west of the great divide I dont think.

Lot's more will come for the Fireworks ... it is also a Global event ... after the poxy NZ NYE Celebrations - with a couple of Sparklers, a Catherine Wheel and some throwdowns - the World tunes in with bated breath to see The Greatest Pyrotechnic Show on Earth! ... it will always be Fireworks, because that's what people want and expect.

The cost is irrelevant, the economic benefit JUST from the event is 20 fold ... and the WHOLE country benefits from the Global Exposure ... cheapest advertising spend in the history of the country.Thumbs Up

That's true, and it is a huge money spinner and virtually free advertising globally, not just for Sydney, but the whole nation.

When you consider that we are spending $15 million on the latest tourism campaign featuring Kylie, and it will won't be seen outside the UK, it is almost free ...

Yes, my point too.  Its rude, and shows no empathy at all.  Sending money up in smoke , when so many other caring people are putting their hand in the pocket to try and help the human and animal victims.
As VSP says, its just plain insensitive.  Not to mention waste of money, and pollution.
Have you donated Whale ?  Or are you too sour , and just enjoy potting others ?
[/QUOTE]

not really your concern but since you ask, yes I have. A four figure amount.

It is a hardship but I will forego the next 4 dinners to make it up.

Pity though, I do enjoy baked beans on toast
