Hello,
after the death of a "Grand Old Lady", who was a great Horse Woman, too and breeder of some Classic Races in Great Britain. Not to forget she raced some of her horses in Germany several years ago.
Definitely there will be obituaries and memories of the "Queen" in our racing papers

On the other hand, it's not widely known, 'The Queen' was the breeder of a broodmare, which was purchased for German interests. Her name was "Prairie Song" and she founded a succesful branch in my home country.

Here is the entry in the "German Thoroughbred Studbook" (Allg. Deutsches Gestütsbuch f. Vollblutzucht = A.D.G.B. Vol. 25, p. 221) :

Prairie Song
(G.St.B. Vol. XXXIII, p. 527)
Chestnut, bred by Queen Elisabeth II., England 1955 by Pinza and Open Country by Fairway and Open Warfare by Umidwar and Frankly by Franklin
imported 1958

1959     12.4. Ch. F Prairie Rose        by Oise              Countess M. Batthyany, Erlenhof Stud

It's the damline of "Malva", see Blenheim and the more contemporary stallions like Footstepsinthesand etc.

For many years her descents carried the prefix "Prairie" in their names, after awhile the run out of ideas, but the first letter is still in use.

At the moment this "Royal Family" has no great runners like Platini/Paolini on our race courses, but you never know.

best regards from Germany
P.S.: Germany is mourning, too.
