A new doco from the Aga Khan Studs organisation to recognise 100yrs in the business. Well worth the 2 hour watch.

anyone in racing that doesnt watch the masters in action and listen very carefully to what is being said, is missing out on an insight into the operations of the worlds most successful continuing breeding and racing operatiion in history bar none, in operation for 100 years and is still bringing the goodies home

currently stands  siyouni and daryan, sea the stars,  zarak breeds to race and sell, personally if i had the bread i would not hesitate in buying stock from them

i first became interested in the AK and his shared (publically)  philosophies on breeding whith his breeding advisor/consultant colonel jj vuilier, about 50 years ago, by reading anything and everything available and now have i believe, an acceptable understanding on how they put it all into practice, My horse excelleration is my first attempt at putting theory into practice, more in the pipeline, and extremely happy thus far to say the least, albeit a tad late in life lol

after vuillier died, the present Ak retained vuillier's widow mme germaine, for life as principal pedigree consultant, not a bad rap for someone whose philosophy was ridiculed in the early days.

i have the book on his 150 group one winners (now 163 GROUP ONES ) and thoroughly enjoyed it and the current video, as i said watch listen and learn, and no SC havent wtched it 100 times (YET LOL) the link is available on their website for anyone interested

What was the name of the main book by Vuiller or about his ideas, Take2 ? I thought I had one and your comment made want to read it again but I it was the Varola books, I have. A quick search on Amazon does not bring anything up under his name so I thought it could have been written by someone else.

breeder, it's called 50 years of Racing and Breeding, it celebrates HH Aga Khan iii's involvement  in Racing, a very big book, heaps of glossies, and quotes from AK iii and princess zahra, and all the studmasters etc i have lent it out but if you look at their site, you will find a reference to it or do a search and just key in 50years of racing aga khan or similar just keep altering key words and it will come up, cost me $$$ but well worth the coin
as an aside, they once published an offer to get a copy of their "Green Book" which was their "studbook" with all the current and some past Broodmares listed, I requested a copy, and they replied, the verbage in which, blew me away, very generous in their support

The AK is very modest when he referred to when he took over from his father, and how everyone else were the experts, and he was just a fresh faced "know nothing" straight out of the University, in his early days, always deferred to eperts he employed

The video is also great, with some funny quotes
one from princess zahra, was how long before her sons get involved in the business, she replied "not until they have finished their education" unequivocally

The top one Djebel, the other two are about his grandfather, or references to him (varola)
They are very cagey in some of the things they say about the methodology, but, if you keep reading and  reading it will come to you
I think Danehill, was most likely the saviour of the stud in some way, as i believe that like many, they tended to avoid northern dancer where possible, and then after some wholesale stud aquisitions along comes siyouni, might be wrong, but thats the feel i got anyway
One thing they are never been frightened to do, is to bred "outside the square" and just breed to what's right for the Mare as against purely for fashion, if you can get a hold of their green book you will see what i mean, for one generation or maybe 2 they will breed to relatively obscure stallions until they get the pedigree to where they want, and then in comes the heavy hitter, and presto  G1 success
MMe germaine vuillier, said that they used a stallion called Prince Bio regularly, because he was seen by them as a "mixer", that is he had the ability to turn pedigrees around by connecting old and modern pedigrees of the day
In Australia, we were blessed with Danehill, who provided the link between Star Kingdom and the now 21st Century, and also provided a link for us into modern european pedigrees, without which, the world would not have Frankel
it is to their detriment that countries in latin america, (and others to a lesser extent Germany and their Blandford blood) have not had the nerve or foresight to get danehill sons into the mix, as those jurisdictions are saturated with OLD ENGLISH blood
gettin way off the track here, so YES the TOP ONE djebel

Hello,
another connection to the "Aga Kahn Breed" is the recent winner Ascot winner "Tahiyra"traciong back to "Eroica" (by Banstar), purchased by Monsieur Dupre, his breeding stoock was later bought
by the than "Aga Khan".

Even it is not obvious at first sight, her damline is the most succesful branch in Europe of family 5, with Australian foundationmare  "The Giggler" (Tomboy Mare - Waxy Mare by Waxy), see Winx.
Eroica to Tomboy Mare - Waxy mare by Waxy), they are FS.

Erica is Anchestress of St. James, Le Volcan (Reliance, Relko, Match, Rocky Montain, Ruling) was sent to Columbia (succesful Sire), Texana, Texanita, Mouktar etc.

regards, Ticino
