I have watched the Big Bash most this season and have noted Mark Waugh, especially over the finals, how his commentary was so biased in favour of the Sydney Sixers. If any game was "going against " the Sixers he would attempt find an excuse, poor light, too cold, etc. To take the cake his comments about the Sixers loss in the final may have travel associated the time between games.
Waugh said "the Sixers might have been suffering from a lack of match preparation in the big game. The Sixers have squeezed in a number of BBL games across the last eight days to conclude their season. This saw them travel from Brisbane, to Perth, to Sydney and back to Perth in eight days. The BBL schedule has changed in recent years to make sure the tournament doesn't drag on for too long. Although this year it meant the Sixers were forced to travel around ahead of their big game. The energy sapping schedule prompted Waugh to suggest Cricket Australia might need to look at revamping the schedule again. “I just think Cricket Australia might need to look at the program – I don’t think one day is enough between the Friday and the Sunday,” he said. “One day is a tough ask if you’re travelling from one side of the country to the other.” |

There was talk before the summer of a possible move to a private ownership model with the BBL, given the reported money the lost from the Perth and Melbourne Ashes tests and CA's reported financial position, this isn't really a surprise.

“I just think Cricket Australia might need to look at the program – I don’t think one day is enough between the Friday and the Sunday,” he said. “One day is a tough ask if you’re travelling from one side of the country to the other.” With 15 such tournaments around the world now forming a circuit for professional T20 players, and very limited time between them, stretching out BBL is not an option methinks.
