I think it's bullsh1t. Person commits a serious crime but found not guilty because they were off their rocker at the time because they were off their meds. After they are sane because they are on meds they are released into the community again. A permanent danger to the community, kept safe only as long as they feel like taking their meds.Mark's attacker was found 'not guilty' due to mental illness. He says the verdict should have been differenthttps://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-07-04/mentally-impaired-accused-act-calls-for-change/101200480 Edited by Gay3 - 04 Jul 2022 at 4:26pm |

Yep. If you know you need meds to stay sane, and you choose not to take them, then you are guilty , as far as I am concerned. Same as when they say oh he was on ice so he cant be held responsible for what he did. Yes he can. He chose to take ice , so he is responsible for everything he does.

Reminds me of a scene in Training Day where it is described how a criminal got off a charge with the use of peanut butter. I'll leave it at that

A Sydney teacher who was killed in an unprovoked attack at an inner west bus stop was entirely blameless and could have been any citizen minding their own business, an inquest has heard.
Cahill faced a special hearing in the NSW Supreme Court in 2017, where he was found not guilty of Mr Liston’s murder due to mental illness. The inquest heard he had a complex mental health history, including lengthy periods of hospitalisation, and required supervision to ensure he took his antipsychotic medication because it made him feel sedated and he disliked it. Cahill had previously been involved in violent incidents including punching a health care worker in the face in April 2014 because he thought they were his mother, and punching a woman in the face at Russell Lea in June 2014 before stealing her handbag. |
