Open of article on racingpost website

It was interesting to read the recent Racing Post feature about what important people thought might happen in 2026. Inevitably, some preferred to ignore what might happen in favour of stating what they would like to happen, which are two very different things. But the feature served to highlight key metrics confronting the sport over the next 12 months.

The themes included rising racecourse attendances (quite probable), the idea that British trainers will outscore Ireland’s at the Cheltenham Festival (surely a pipedream), the prospect of a vintage Flat season (a possibility, provided the older horses stay sound), and an increase in Japanese-trained runners in Britain (the jury’s out).

So the japs are going to save british flat racing eh

It's remarkable how dependent the whole show in England depends on a couple of Middle Eastern families. For example the Maktoums own over half of Newmarket.
Manners are of more importance than laws

The US industry is rather parlous also.

Mind you the breeding industry per se also owes a huge debt to other non Poms/Irish in RHR The Aga Khan and Frederico Tesio amongst others.  Without them and the more recent Middle Eastern presence the racing and breeding industries would be entirely terminal.

It's hugely important that racing and breeding continue and hopefully flourish in the NH else the gene pool will further contract and we on Oz will suffer accordingly.

I think the pool is too small now.  Too much leached off to breed with other breeds etc.

from the racingpost website

Lord Allen's resignation as BHA chair after just six months has triggered an extraordinary racecourse revolt, with Ascot leading a group of Britain's most powerful tracks in a call for urgent governance reform.

News of Allen's departure from the BHA at 9.18am on Tuesday was followed 22 minutes later by a call from the Jockey Club and leading courses Ascot, Goodwood, Newbury and York for an urgent review of the Racecourse Association's (RCA) governance "to support industry change".

The ultimatum included an endorsement for the establishment of a new, independent board at the BHA, which had been one of Allen's conditions for joining the organisation in the first place.

The signatories made it clear they wanted more say in key decisions affecting the sport, while Ascot's chief executive Felicity Barnard said it would be prepared to leave the RCA if necessary. Thoroughbred Group chairman Julian Richmond-Watson also gave his support to an independent BHA board.

The long-expected news that Allen had resigned came after the governing body's members failed to reach an agreement on reforms to create an independent board and a more commercial remit. It followed weeks of growing speculation that his position was in doubt, prompted by a stalemate between Allen and the sport's other major power brokers – racecourses and racing's participants.

A racing post article indicated the Jockey Club were hoping to flog their catering interests for up to 100 million pounds and put the money into Aintree and Cheltenham with 6 million set aside for the Epsom Derby.
