A very early foal Ticino.  Hope there's plenty more to come in your homeland.

Ticino, would appreciate if you might be able to tell us much about the German bred stallion Ancient Spirit who now stands in New Zealand during the SH Spring.  Smile

Hello,
Many thanks for your request.

I was surprised to Discover he stands stand as a "shuttle Sire" in NZ.

In a nutshell, he belongs to the "Alex" family imported to Germany, during the 1940's from France.
His family is still to find at "Schlenderhan".
In Germany is the best known offspring "Alpenkönig" (By Tamerlane) won "German Derby" and bred by the same studs as "Lombard".
Ancient Spirit was a good winner at distances between 1600 - 2000 meter and won several Group Racers at Listed to Gr. 2 level. Please keep in mind no Races at this distance have a Gr. 1 status in Germany.

The most interesting it's the damline of 'Almandin', who won the "Melbourne Cup" some years ago.
His Sire "Invisible Spirit" I think is a very familiar name in AUS/NZ.

He would be a very wide 'Outcross' for your Broodmare population, on the other hand he would introduce some new 'blood' for the next generations.

When you look behind Pantheon (by Borealis) you see the name "Diomedes", btw it's the sam Sire you will find in 'Zabeel'. Pantheon himself is from the damline of "Hyperion".

Hope I could give some clues.

Regards from a cold Germany.

Hello,
I forgot an important Info.

Ancient Spirit is a HB of "Alson" (by Areion). He was bred by "Schlenderhan" and won some races already as 2 year old. It's not so common In Germany, because our thoroughbreds not so precocious as in other countries.

Alson had his first foals in 2022.

regards, Ticino

Hello,
I saw in another thread, you are interested in a Foal/yearling Byx "Ancient Spirit".

May I add a bit more info of the damline, in Europe it is the line of "Cos" (Rustom Pasha, Diadumenos, Costaki Pasha etc.). So I checked whether is another strain represented in AUS/NZ. Here I found, "Better Boy" is from Fam. 2-n you will see him in the damline of Sebring.

regards, Ticino
