I'll second that. ![]() ps: if BP was leading the stallions around I'm told they'd all appear to be about 17.3 hands tall.

That’s friggin hilarious! Made my day! Sadly, the rumour is true. Works for people too, though, if anyone wants to be my friend and look taller

Listen you two!!! Why do people always bring things back to me? 😂
On height, we have had a contractor who has worked at our yearling sales for a few years. Ripper bloke. But he’s built like Jack Reacher! The only horses we let him parade are the ones who are too big!

Tall people take up too much space
![]() Funny how you always get dragged in 😂 at least there’s no one here to berate us for going off topic. I have, in fact, been used on many occasions to make horses appear taller. #shortfriendforhire

BP, you could make good money following the sales around as a contractor when the timing suits. You have all the skills they need and more.
Only trouble is you’d somehow need to arrange up to 10 days away from your “herd”.

From memory it’s a couple of grand a week, all expenses paid, (even return airfares to the venue sometimes), meals, accommodation, etc.
Some of them are pretenders who get caught out eventually. But, if you can handle a precocious yearling colt in his early morning walk, muck out a box or two, then dress up in the stud’s regalia and parade that colt for the hoi polloi and in the sales’ rings? The studs will ring you every time. Good fun for anyone with the skills. Unfortunately, a 68yo doesn’t cut it as the man for that job. Must be my lack of hair. Second Chance, getting chased up re FIRST SETTLER for one of my mares. The cross Written Tycoon with the family has worked really well in the past. Have 2 mares, and the one I'm thinking of (and really only option, as other mare is by Capitalist) is the more correct mare having won 160k plus and is a flying machine. Interesting to hear your comment re- front legs are a foot apart.... Issue I have with Yulong is they flood the sales with their own stock and do deals with trainers re.. buy one of ours and we'll give you one to train....

Thanks for the boost, ff
I have done yearling sales prep in a previous life, loved it, and often dreamt of doing the actual sales. Would be great fun and money. But yep, you know me, even 10 hours away from the herd and we all get separation anxiety And I don’t trust anyone else to look after them … unless you want to come here and do it ![]() Precocious colts? Easy peasy. Chestnut fillies are the scary ones!

Pnclick I may be the odd one out here as someone who's been in the business for years was impressed by First Settler and didn't agree with my critique. Went back through four sales where his dam had entries and there were no videos for three including FS! The only one with video was a filly who three her OF somewhat but otherwise appeared well enough put together. FS himself sold for $750k so was clearly well regarded when offered. When he stood for the audience he certainly did appear to stand wide and slightly toed out, however that said I was on an angle when he was at the walk so couldn't effectively view his width and stride to confirm or amend my observation. Were he correct, and maybe that's the case, I wouldn't hesitate sending a mare to him. Hopefully you'll be able to secure a second opinion.

I think I was mistaken SC if you are referring to “The Boss”. She confirmed that she did NOT like First Settler. I was confusing him with another.
Your assessment is usually pretty good.

Some interesting deals being offered by studs at the lower end - Widden, Coolmore, Newgate.
If you had to pick one of the below for a well bred but maiden Savabeel mare Anders vs Kings Legacy vs Portland Sky vs Wild Ruler vs Brutal - all similar price give or take a couple of gorillas? |

Brutal gives you 13 over 1 line of savabeel. Not to mention the Oreilly cross to savabeel. Sorry on tablet and can't type well here

Pedigree wise - I do like the O'Reilly x Savabeel cross. Those two were barn buddies for a long time a
Commercially though? Kings Legacy and Anders have runners but no standouts yet. Brutal atleast has 2 crops and 1 standout. Portland and Wild Ruler will have runners in the coming months. Which risk option do I take?

Your choice it has to be but as I said. One has the results on board mind you I don't know the mare and plenty of other blood in a pedigree than her sire!
