If anyone is interested, I will gladly give my thoughts on potential matings for ONE mare gratis per interested villager using what i believe is very similar methodology to the Aga Khan empire
My record since i started on this is 3 from 3
Excelleration, (G2-G3 4 cups in total) not my breeding choice, but pedigree choice using same methodology cost 6k
Cosmic Enigma, selected out of the paddock after being approached by the breeder, confirmed after running same methodology, (1 race in Australia 5 2nds and onsold to HK for massive return)
Shazair (resulted from suggested breeding 1 win and jarred up in her attempt at listed race)

Not saying I can do the same with Your mares, but you can be sure will suggest some interesting matches, including a list of what Sires or mares your mare is lacking and best needs, limited to  20 mares in total so get in early, some mares are nigh on impossible to match, but will have a crack, and if i cant come up with something i like, will give whoever is owner another go

we can do it all here, or if you choose not to contact me via PM on the village
3 from 3 with 3 others in the immediate pipeline showing promise. and other babies on the way to the breakers etc nxt season
as i said, for free, got nothing better to do and love checking pedigrees out, that all may change in the future

change is simply a destination on a journey reached by taking the first step (i said that) lol

I'll have to buy a mare just so I can take advantage of this amazing offer, Take2!
(Unfortunately I still have some commonsense so don't breed and will just follow this thread and others' success with great interest Embarrassed)

FF, did you buy this 2yo just cos she has 'Tiger' in the breeding? LOL

That’s what I tell people BP 😀 but the reality is I fell for her on type originally and watched her grow into a lovely horse. I don’t mind the dam side as well.

geez you have lobbed a curve ball there Freefall, i must reword the original post, as i did mean selecting matings for broodmares, however i will do my best with yr request, albeit lean toward suitable mating for the dam, who altho a 2008 model imo does or did have potential if suitable matches were found, which i dont think that has been the case previously, that said, i will give you my thoughts on the pedigree of the filly later tonight or tomoro

Bear in mind, that I concentrate on what Mme Germaine Vuillier said in relation to contribution to pedigrees, She was the principal Bloodstock advisor to HH Aga Khan iv after JJ died, until the day She passed
"The Mare "makes the Stallion, & not vise verce"

The whole general thrust of the operation is compatibility, and with them, if it took 2-3 generations to get what they wanted, so be it
My list of Archetypes consists of 235 Sires and broodmares who have contributed significantly to the breed since inception in 1600's, and, my analysis goes back the 12 generations recommended by JJ Vuillier in his mammoth contribution to the ongoing evolution of the TB, via his 1901-1930 published works of 3 Volumes of which I have the complete set, replete with the "Tissue Guards" protecting the many pages of Pics of famous Sires of the day.

This is wot happens when Danehill introduced, i have 16 named occurences Rich Enuff has 9 SW of which 7 contain Danehill, the 2 missing Lempicka , and Rich Fortune, from below,  have Mr P, and Sadler's Wells (which are both missing from Rich Enuff's pedigree) respectively. 7 from 9 not bad Huh, but really 9 from 9 better (include Sad Wells. and MR P into the mix)
Simple? not really, sometimes the inclusion of a missing sire or dam , just doesn't fit, so he need to keep playing until it does

IMO Freefall, the Filly should get a distance pretty easy, from a female family perspective, looks like 1600 and up , possible 2000m or thereabouts, the male side looks like a bit of speed there, so possible a start around 1400m and then ease Her up a to 1600 and how much is left in the tank.
Most young horses have natural speed or precociusness

I agree with the distance range she’ll hopefully fit into. Hopefully the dam side gives her some stamina?

Poking my nose in, as ever and with respect, the breeder of Tiger's Girl has applied a clear scattergun strategy to her matings: sprinting, miler, middle distance and staying sires: and all that with scant regard for synergy between sires and dam.

And given you have a piece of the Rich Enuff filly believe you need at an undelayed point in time decide, based on her early attitude, just what distance to prepare her for.

RE's better performers have for the most part excelled at 1000-1200, so if she goes quick certainly run with that.  However if that doesn't prove to be the case she probable she won't be real terrific at 1400-1600 either. In which case my strategy would to specifically train her to get over at least 2000 in the hope that the distaff pedigree kicks in.

Fwiw.

I know the girl who has been riding her work. She reckons that as soon as a horse comes up outside her she won’t let them past.

The track rider has just been inducted into the Victorian apprentice programme.

Keep an eye out for Cass Hill in the future 👏👏

re optimum distances, when Elvis 1st went to Richie's as a somewhat gangly late 2yo I told Richie I thought He would get a distance maybe 2 miles going on his pedigree,  not sure what he thought, (but looking back I think he must've memory banked it ) Elvis proceeded to have His 1st start which was over 1400m where He bolted in by a conservative couple of lns ears pricked, Along his voyage to 2 miles, he had some amazing sectionals, in one win (might have been at 1600) amongst his sectionals for the race was the 1200m in 1:08 which even tho a "flying" start could have quite possibly won him a Newmarket, if trained that way. prior to his win @ Flemington over 2000m Richie told me that elvis would get 2 miles "easy" We have been very fortunate along the way, to have Jocs the calibre of Billy Egan John Allan Declan Bates Mickey Dee Jamie Kah and Harry Coffey, who always gave Elvis every chance. It's so good when you have a trainer who listens a and considers a Horse's pedigree coupled with an intricate knowledge thru personal experience in race riding. and can articulate to his peers in the jockey ranks, ala harry Coffey, famously cutting the corner @ Morphettville on Richies Instructions i guess what I am saying is in reference to what I believe to be "Classic speed", which is often spoken about but rarely understood, i think its where a Horses natural speed can be used tactically, Horses like Winx- Black Caviar - Makybe Diva Anamoe The Autumn Sun, Elvis in the Kerang Cup, taken to the front by Tommy Stockdale 1000m out, challenged all the way down the straight, and wins, etc in Oz all had it, and the Jocs used it to perfection, like Black Caviar in cruising mode until the question asked and simply "changes gears" and into overdrive. There's so many tools that can be used nowadays to get a hint of possibilities from a pedigree rather than just considering the 1st 3-4 generations, yet far too often opinions get in the way of factual info.eg Rare Subject, Elvis dam, won 4 races 1400- 2200m, his 5th dam lady Be good, was a 5f speed freak, and Blue Hen, Wavering Monarch, successful sire and grand g1 winning Miler, middle distance performer in the US also in Female line moving on to Excelebration, a very very good miler, winning 2 G1's and 4 2nds to Frankel @ mile and 7f, with Sarah Siddons 3 time g1 winner and Yorkshire Oaks winner, so theres the speed and stamina and toughness  mix

Breeding of Racehorses and Methodology Explained

An Insight into the Linebreeding, Inbreeding, which is utilised heavily by The Vuillier Dosage Theory, that I use in selection of Racehorses and Broodmares, and has thus far resulted in a group 2/3 winner Excelleration (Launceston, Adelaide, Gt Western & Kerang Cups), a  winner of nearly $1m (Aus and HK) in Cosmic Enigma/Illuminous, and Shazair (winner in first prep in WA and showing considerable promise) from either selections or planning of mating, as well as some very promising unraced Young Horses, as well as Foals coming through

Introduction

Breeding racehorses is an intricate science that combines genetics, tradition, and a bit of luck. Success in this field often hinges on understanding and applying various breeding methodologies. This document delves into two fundamental techniques—linebreeding and inbreeding—and explores the theories behind the Vuillier dosage philosophy and practice.

Linebreeding

Linebreeding is a method of breeding horses that emphasizes the importance of retaining the genes of a distinguished ancestor within a pedigree. This technique involves mating horses that share a common ancestor within a few generations. The primary goal of linebreeding is to intensify the presence of a particular desirable trait or set of traits found in this ancestor, thereby reinforcing these qualities in the offspring.

The key to successful linebreeding is balance. Breeders must carefully select horses with complementary qualities to avoid amplifying potential weaknesses. For example, if an ancestor was known for exceptional speed but had a tendency towards fragile bones, breeders should choose a mate that compensates for this weakness while still reinforcing the speed trait.

Inbreeding

Inbreeding, on the other hand, involves mating horses that are closely related, such as siblings or parents to offspring. This method is more intense than linebreeding and can quickly consolidate both desirable and undesirable traits. Inbreeding aims to produce horses with uniform characteristics by doubling up on the genes of superior ancestors.

However, inbreeding carries significant risks. The lack of genetic diversity can lead to the expression of recessive genetic disorders, reduced fertility, and overall decreased vigor. To mitigate these risks, breeders must maintain meticulous records and conduct thorough genetic evaluations to ensure the health and performance of their stock.

Vuillier Dosage Philosophy and Practice

The Vuillier dosage theory is a comprehensive framework used to evaluate the genetic potential of racehorses. Developed by French geneticist Col JJ. Vuillier, and embraced by Aga Khan iii, and the backbone of the Empire that stands today this theory categorizes stallions and broodmares based on their genetic contributions to specific performance traits, such as speed, stamina, and versatility.

This dosage system assigns calculated numerical values to ancestors in a horse's pedigree, known as dosage points, which are calculated utilising the selected “Archetypes” as the benchmark each representing different performance qualities. High total points are often indicative of absolute standouts of the breed eg , Danehill, Sadler’s Wells, By analysing the distribution of these points, breeders can predict the potential aptitude of a horse for various racing distances and conditions

Practically, the Vuillier dosage system allows breeders to make informed decisions when selecting mates. For instance, if a breeder wants to produce a horse with a balanced combination of speed and stamina, they would seek to combine horses with dosage points that complement each other in these categories.

Selecting broodmares with the lowest possible dosage figures has proven to be a highly effective breeding strategy, producing stakes-winning horses with remarkable consistency. This approach has yielded significant success in English traditional Classic races, with around 80% of victories attributed to horses whose dams possess low dosage points. By focusing on mares with these optimized genetic profiles, breeders can enhance the likelihood of generating offspring with the ideal combination of speed, stamina, and versatility.

An essential aspect of the Vuillier dosage theory is the goal of achieving a balance of dosage points as close to zero as possible, many of the acknowledged forebears of  thoroughbred, possessing extremely low points. This balance reflects an optimal alignment with the archetypal performance traits desired in specific racing conditions. By targeting a zero balance, breeders are better able to produce horses that embody a harmonious blend of speed, stamina, and versatility, thus increasing their potential for success across various race distances and surfaces.

Inbreeding closer than the 5th generation, such as mating siblings or parents to offspring, can have severe genetic implications. Although it can solidify desirable traits like speed or agility, the risks often outweigh the benefits. Such close inbreeding can exponentially increase the likelihood of recessive genetic disorders and other health issues within a bloodline. The lack of genetic diversity can lead to compromised immune systems, reduced fertility, and overall decreased vigour. Breeders who choose to inbreed within this close range must be exceedingly cautious and employ rigorous genetic testing to prevent the perpetuation of detrimental traits.

Despite the potential for producing exceptional racehorses with uniform characteristics, the practice of close inbreeding demands an unwavering commitment to ethical breeding practices. This includes maintaining meticulous records, conducting thorough genetic evaluations, and making informed decisions to avoid compromising the health and wellbeing of the horses. By approaching inbreeding with scientific precision and responsibility, breeders can navigate the delicate balance of enhancing desirable traits while safeguarding the genetic integrity An old adage from Mme Germaine Vuillier states, "The Mare makes the Stallion," highlighting the critical role of the mare in determining the quality of the offspring. Therefore, it is essential to carefully examine the excesses and deficiencies of the bloodlines and breed accordingly. Identifying stallions that act as mixers for incompatible bloodlines is crucial. For instance, Prince Bio, used by the Aga Khan and Vuillier, was employed to "balance" a pedigree when a suitable match could not be found. The success of Danehill, initially in Austalia, was the result of Danehill combining successfully with the many lines of Star Kingdom available , and he could possibly be regarded as a “mixer”. Next in the compatibility race, is Sadler’s Wells, when combined with Danehill, has produced many Group one performers and Stakeswinners successful Sires (eg Frankel), and Broodmares

utilising the points can indicate where in a pedigree any particular desired anscestor should appear which maximises potential for success

Conclusion

Breeding racehorses is a complex endeavor that requires a deep understanding of genetics and meticulous attention to detail. Both linebreeding and inbreeding offer pathways to reinforcing desirable traits, but they must be applied with caution and expertise. The Vuillier dosage theory provides a valuable tool for breeders to assess and optimize the genetic potential of their horses, guiding them towards producing the next generation of champions. By blending tradition with scientific principles, breeders can continue to enhance the quality and performance of racehorses, ensuring the future success of this prestigious sport.

Here's one for breeding buffs, Lot 54 Melbourne Premier.

Filly by the Autumn Sun from Azila sold to a trainer down the road for $100k.  The filly has the exceptional broodmare Asmara 3 x 3 in the bottom line of both sire and dam, resulting in female half-sisters 2 x 2.

Was quite interested in purchasing a share however was ultimately put off by two reasons, one of which was the close 2 x 2 sibling relationship.

Others might agree or have an entirely different view.  So I'd invite opinions from anyone moved to do so.  Thumbs Up

ps: Take2 might be a tad biased as the tail female line is one bred and fostered by HH Aga Khan

That lot is very interesting to say the least, SC, from a Vuillier/AK perspective, the mating is a tad questionable given the importance placed on inbreeding closer than 5 gens by Vuillier, like most thing breeding wise and especially genetics there is always an if or might involved, whilst against breeding closer than 5 gens, it carries some provisos, some of which maybe on a thread re inbreeding and has some quotes from Vuillier, theres other presences there of immense interest as well? In saying all that about inbreeding, it's interesting to note that the wright's inbreeding coeffieient is 5.788% slightly above the 5% "allowed" I have found 18 occurences of a dbl urban sea on my db for 6 sw and 3 g1's including Mac Swiney and Masar, for other reasons, some of which you know SC  i am not inclined toward it, but from a pure pedigree perspective, and alowing the 5.8% coefficient, a maybe
