I see Gaetjens has not waited to be fired and resigned yesterday. I guess he would have taken his "investigation reports" with him if they existed.

I wonder if he shredded all of his ''independent'' reports?

Now seriously - fair point Furious. The question i have for others is this - even though the ALP romped home those on that tilt still seem to be pre-occupied with commenting on old LNP threads - & worse still new LNP threads. Almost seems an obsession - although after 9 years i suppose it can be explained away as habit. Lets just get on with productive banter discussing the ALP meeting all their well thought out policies. That would (or should) be a much better for all .

I don't mind Albo. Most would say he's a decent fellow. Doesn't automatically make him a good PM though.
Don't think he's super bright - think the handmaidens will run rings around him. When things get tough - & we all know they will - his inability to back up his promises will lead to him getting booted.

Of course, once Labor gets in, they do stay awhile... thirteen years, Hawke and Keating...and they were very long tortuous years for a Lib voter... Six years for Krudd and Julia. Might have been enjoyable if it wasn't for the white-anting... I predict a minimum six years for Albo's Army, while the Libs get their act together...and longer if Dutton is made head honcho. |

I hope they sneak her in to a 'job for the girls'...as distinct from a 'job for the boys'... |

Talking about the handmaidens - does anyone else feel like shaking Tanya just a bit on occasions. Almost looked like she was half asleep on the ABC Election program the other night. I mean its good to be cool & clam.....but she takes it too another level.

Along with no denial from an appalling, disgraced, unwanted Coalition Government led by an even more appalling PM.

I love you posts Bob! So full of bitterness it’s truly delicious! And speaking of delicious, the $800 bottle of French red I’m currently enjoying with lunch on the way to Paris certainly fits the bill. Reading your posts at the same time only improves the flavour!

I did not know they served $800 bottles of French red in cattle class on those economy airlines, but there you go. |

They don’t. But then I haven’t flown long haul economy in 10+ years. Think I’ll just keep on enjoying the Chateau La Mission Haut Brion at your expense Bob. Perhaps you can pull out one of your bottles of Grange to drown your sorrows?

I have very low expectations. Integrity agency with teeth + a reduction in the amount of rorting and dodgy mega contracts handed out to mystery mates by the Tories will satisfy me.

Re the Integrity agency idea - what's the deal there, realistically speaking? Will it be a retrospective thing, and if so, going back how far and why? Or will it be a "starting from now" thing, to look like we're starting from a fresh clean slate? Genuine question. Plus how long will it take to decide on time frames, protocols etc?

Labor has proposed a robust commission with strong powers, coupled with checks and balances to ensure it does not abuse its powers. The National Anti-Corruption Commission will have broad jurisdiction to investigate serious and systemic corruption by Commonwealth ministers, public servants, ministerial advisers, statutory office holders, government agencies and MPs. Crucially, it would have the power to conduct public hearings if it believes it’s in the public interest. Labor’s model balances the seriousness of allegations with any unfair prejudice to a person’s reputation or unfair exposure of a person’s private life. This is a proportionate model that enhances public trust through public hearings, but also takes into account legitimate concerns about damage to an individual’s reputation. By contrast, the Coalition’s proposed model did not include the power for public hearings. The National Anti-Corruption Commission will have the power to make findings of fact, including findings of corrupt conduct. It could refer matters involving criminality to law enforcement authorities. Unlike the Coalition’s policy, the National Anti-Corruption Commission will also have retrospective powers to investigate alleged misconduct from 15 years ago. Labor’s National Anti-Corruption Commission can act in response to referrals, including from whistleblowers and public complaints, consistent with other integrity bodies. By contrast, the Coalition’s model did not allow referrals from the public. Importantly, the strong powers of the National Anti-Corruption Commission will be counterbalanced by external accountability mechanisms to “watch the watchdog” via parliament and the courts. There would be oversight by a parliamentary joint committee. Its decisions would also be subject to judicial review, to ensure the body’s compliance with the law, due process and other standards. They want it by the end of the year

How they refer Barnaby and Angus and whoever granted the $1B uncontested tender to mates (the most egregious examples) without being accused of blatant political bias, will be interesting. |
