Be interesting to see what happens for the Andrew Ramsden (and SA Derby), with Alegron, Teewaters, Phere The Ex and Turfie all having accepted already for the Derby, particularly for Turfie who is 2nd Emergency in the Derby with the others all guaranteed a run.

Alegron isn't in the all in market with the TAB for the Andrew Ramsden so I guess he's going to Morphetville but the other 3 are in both markets still.

Interesting Afros.

Give or take the Ramsden will likely comprise about ten BM types, half of which will be distanced, and three or four open class horses.  I'd be running Alegron in the Ramsden, virtually on the minimum if you please.

But what the heck James hasn't sought my opinion for a while now.  Wink

If they intend to run him in the spring Cups, surely the Ramsden makes more sense? Listed compared to G1, same purse either race and also ballot exempt status.

By makes more sense, I mean in terms of the weight he'll be allocated for the Cups and the ballot exempt means they can work on having him primed for the first Tuesday rather than trying to qualify as well.

South Australian Derby: Godolphin gun gets top draw

Talented three-year-old Alegron has drawn perfectly for his latest attempt of a well-earned Group 1 breakthrough in Saturday’s South Australian Derby (2500m) at Morphettville.

Trainer James Cummings and connections were tossing up between the Derby and the Melbourne Cup qualifying Andrew Ramsden in Melbourne but have elected to keep Alegron against his own age.

The Godolphin stayer has already finished in the placings of both the Victorian and Australian Derby and has Damien Oliver booked to ride for Saturday’s feature from barrier three.

Wisdom has been chasing me but I've always outrun it!

Just my two cents worth, I would have stayed at Flemington a track which he has shown a liking for.

[QUOTE=Second Chance] Give or take the Ramsden will likely comprise about ten BM types, half of which will be distanced, and three or four open class horses.  I'd be running Alegron in the Ramsden, virtually on the minimum if you please.  QUOTE]

They stuffed up with acceptances, clear as day.  Why not accept for both the Derby and Ramsden and run where best?

Speaking of the Ramsden, how was the run of the winner? Three deep punching the breeze the entire trip, first to make a move at the 800m still widest around the turn then held them all off. Big big run.

Spot on PMD.  Suggests something about the winner, but even more about the opposition.

Considering she almost fell off on jumping & tho' wide with cover (her words) I thought she did a tremendous job, app. or not, to make her run early, knowing the horse would be strong throughout.
I know, had she been beaten, punters would've howled but she had the conviction to do everything she did & it paid off.

Wisdom has been chasing me but I've always outrun it!
