The Gp1 Prix de Diane (French Oaks) has been won by Nashwa (3f  Frankel x Princess Loulou, by Pivotal) who defeated La Parisienne & Rosacea.

Earlier this month Nashwa ran 3rd in the Oaks at Epsom after winning the LR Fillies' Trial Stakes at Newbury in May. Her dam, Princess Loulou, won at Listed level & ran 2nd in the Gp1 Prix Jean Romanet.

The Gp1 Irish Derby has been won by Westover (3c Frankel x Mirabilis, by Lear Fan) who scored by 7 lengths to Piz Badile with French Claim third.

The surprising thing about the race was the price. I'm sure most expected him to be long odds on after his performance in the Epsom Derby where he should have finished much closer to Desert Crown. However, there was a lot of money for the Oaks winner, Tuesday who could only finish 4th. Many must have thought Christmas had arrived when they bet odds against about Westover.

Here are his damline details after he won the Gp3 Sandown Classic Trial. Related to a few horses well known in Australia & New Zealand such as Mallory, Sassy 'N' Smart & Biometric.

In other news, the outstanding stayer Trueshan competed in the Northumberland Plate, a Heritage Handicap, on the all-weather track at Newcastle. He carried 10 st 8 lb giving 19 pounds to the next in the weights but was still able to win.

Also, Zoustar sired a stakeswinner. Lezoo (2f Zoustar x Roger Sez, by Red Clubs) won the Listed Empress Fillies' Stakes at Newmarket.

Excess Knowledge was also from the same damline as Westover.

The Gp1 Pretty Polly Stakes for fillies & mares over 10 furlongs at the Curragh has been won by La Petite Coco  (4m  Ruler Of The World x La Petite Virginia, by Konigstiger).

This was her first appearance in 2022. Last September she defeated Love in the Gp2 Blandford Stakes. These were her damline details at the time. La Petite Coco is related to some very good German horses including Lavirco & Lomitas.

There was an impressive winner last night at Sandown in the Listed Coral Marathon over 2 miles. Coltrane (5g Mastercraftsman x Promise Me, by Montjeu) won by 10 lengths from Rodrigo Diaz. The opposition wasn't particularly strong but he raced away from them in the home straight. At his previous start, he won the Ascot Stakes over 20 furlongs at Royal Ascot. It will be interesting to see how he performs in stronger company.

There was a 0-85 rated handicap over 2600m that if you can believe the speedometer ran a lot faster than the Listed contest won by Coltrane.

The handicap had a finishing speed according to the speedometer of over 30 miles an hour whilst Coltrane was paddling at around the 20 mph.

You can watch both races here -

And the finishes of all the races here -

He will probably have to take on the top liners if he stays in England. Possibly the Goodwood Cup, Lonsdale Cup, Doncaster Cup & British Champions Long Distance Cup.

The final 3 furlongs of the race (Coltrane was probably 3 lengths behind at that point) was run in 38.60 secs. I make that an average speed of somewhere just under 35mph.

3570/213.37=16.73 yds/sec
3080/186.76=16.49 yds/sec

Last year's Arc hero is back in the winner's stall. Torquator Tasso just scored a comfortable victory in the Gp2 Grosser Hansa-Preis over 12 furlongs at Hamburg.

The Gp1 Eclipse Stakes over 10 furlongs at Sandown provided an exciting contest with victory going to Vadeni (3c Churchill x Vaderana, by Monsun) who defeated the fast-finishing Mishriff who might have been unlucky to lose. Native Trail finished a close third just ahead of Lord North. Bay Bridge & Alenquer both disappointed.

At his previous start, Vadeni won the Gp1 Prix du Jockey Club.

There was also an impressive win in the Gp2 Lancashire Oaks at Haydock. Free Wind (4m  Galileo x Alive Alive Oh, by Duke Of Marmalade) was smashed into the running rail halfway up the home straight but somehow was able to recover & flash home to victory by 2¼ lengths. It was her first run this year after finishing 2021 with successes in Gp3 Prix Minerve & Gp2 Park Hill Stakes.

John Messara should use his influence with the Aga Khan and talk him into sending Vadeni down here for the Mackinnon Stakes.

Well done Grey Affair, You spotted Vadeni from his previous win and I am still waiting for the clash with Desert Crown and Westover, although 2400m may be a bridge too far for Vadeni (?) . Mishriff was very unlucky.

A horse I bought up a few weeks ago ran last night at Chantilly-Facteur Cheval in the 3rd. Stepped up to Listed level, staying at 1600m. Won easily in what turned into a dawdle and a sprint home with him coming from rear of 6 horse field. Not as super impressive but probably couldn't do much more.
Be interesting to see if they step him up further in distance and grade next.

I missed both winners but as was preoccupied with the heavy rains at home and forgot all about them!

Tried to buy Vadeni after he ran 3rd in a Group race last year. Fair to say they weren't very interested and for good reason LOL

The Gp1 Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud has been won by Alpinista (5m Frankel - Alwilda, by Hernando) defeating Baratti & Bubble Gift.

Trained by Sir Mark Prescott, Alpinista has now won her last 6 starts including 4 Group Ones. She won 3 Gp1s in Germany last year.

Damline details:-

The Gp1 Deutsches Derby has been won by Sammarco (3c Camelot - Saloon Sold, by Soldier Hollow) who defeated Schwarzer Peter & So Moonstruck in a close finish.

There was a massive upset in the Gp1 Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket. The 1/7 favourite, Inspiral, was beaten into second place by Prosperous Voyage (3f Zoffany - Seatone, by Mizzen Mast) with Sandrine third.

It was a good day for Australian stallions.
The Gp2 Duchess Of Cambridge Stakes for 2yo fillies over 6 furlongs at Newmarket was won by Mawj (2f Exceed And Excel - Modern Ideals, by New Approach) who defeated Lezoo (2f Zoustar - Roger Sez, by Red Clubs).

Meanwhile, at York, the Gp3 Summer Stakes was won by Flotus (3f Starspangledbanner - Floriade, by Invincible Spirit).

Not quite! Another Group One third for Artorius. He was a little slow to begin but finished strongly.

The Gp1 July Cup was won by Alcohol Free (4m No Nay Never - Plying, by Hard Spun) who defeated Naval Crown & Artorius.

Alcohol Free has now won 4 Group Ones.

There was a very impressive winner of the Listed City Walls Stakes over 5 furlongs at York, Royal Aclaim  (3f Aclaim - Knock Stars, by Soviet Star) who looked a class above her opposition. Her trainer, James Tate, previously put the polish on the classy sprinters Far Above (Gp3 Palace House Stakes in 2020) & Invincible Army (Gp2 Duke Of York Stakes in 2019 along with 3 Gp3 wins & a Gp1 placing). He says Royal Aclaim is quicker than both of them. She has now been installed as favourite for the Gp1 Nunthorpe Stakes over the same course as today.

The Gp1 Prix Jean Prat for 3yos over 7 furlongs at Deauville was won by Tenebrism (3f Caravaggio - Immortal Verse, by Pivotal) who defeated Light Infantry & Lusail.

Last year Tenebrism won the Gp1 Cheveley Park Stakes. Her dam won 2 Gp1s from the family of Last Tycoon. Damline details:-
