3yo Savabeel colt out of the O’reilly mare O’Dianne Looks a progressive staying type this guy Both runs so far have been over the 1400m found himself in a race void of any tempo on debut ducking back to the inside stretching out nicely to score Next run tho had way more (19L faster overall) ran off his feet early a fair way off them on the corner ….. but I didn’t mind the way this colt was lengthening stride when it was all over Ahhhh man he was supposed to be going around over the 1600m @ Gosford tomorrow n I’d nailed the $5.50 but that meetings now been washed out by Sydney’s glamorous Autumn weather n now nominated over the 1550m @ Canterbury (Fri) where I will be watching him go around with plenty of interest As have had a little nibble e/w @ his current price $51.00 - $13.50 TAB for the Derby |

Love following AdaHunta’s early picks.
This guy jumps straight from a BM64 at Goulburn to the G2 Tulloch Stakes tomorrow. Lots of different form lines coming together in the race. Would be interested to get Ada’s (or anyone else’s) thoughts on Paternal’s chances tomorrow?

I Like him LH I like seeing these 3yos progressing through the grades n beating the older horses He knocked them off last start stepping up to the MILE on a very testing track it was a GOOD win he really knuckled down when he had too He draws well too !! ….. Bowman should be able to park him close to the speed and give him every possible It’s obviously a BIG step up in grade but I think he’s UP to IT n very keen to see him out to the 2000m The forecast does look horrible tho plenty of overnight rain n all day tomorrow allready looking @ a Heavy8 so it’s going to be a real SLOG !! |

From the Stewards Report - Paternal – Rider H Bowman stated the gelding did not appreciate the strong early tempo of the event, came under pressure from the 800m and commenced to give ground. He added, in addition, he felt Paternal, whilst it had performed well on rain affect going, did not appreciate the soft track conditions, particularly when up in grade today. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying cardiac arrhythmia. Trainer Mr C Waller was advised a veterinary clearance would be required, including the results of an EGC, prior to Paternal barrier trialling to the satisfaction of Stewards, before racing again. |

’m not sure how bad cardiac arrhythmia is n the effects is has on a horse Otherwise I thought he was awful step up in grade to much for him !! Geee the rider of Sergents Redwood filly was spewing the meeting got moved appeared very confident she would of romped in had it been kept @ the 2000m on that BOG track I couldn’t help noticing her clashing with Tipitina (horse I’ve been following) @ her past 2 starts the Tavistock gelding getting the better of her on a soft track Next clash tho she absolutely loved the HEAVY8 conditions destroying him by 4+ ears pricked through the line If the OAKS is on a BOG track she just might be the one !! |

She was a nice Oaks trial Hunta, but this will be a very competitive Oaks, I am actually looking forward to this race.
Not sure if Hinged or Fangirl will be there, but Gypsy Goddess showed she is up to these, I thought the group behind that included Pink Ivory, Never Been Kissed, Hope In Your Heart, Yearning, would be better at a longer distance tan the 1850m. The Adrian Knox has also been a good guide over the last few years so we could get a late developer coming through Saturday.

QLD Derby runner up.
The Kiwi was just a little too good today but Paternal should have a nice career ahead too. Newcastle Cup / Metropolitan Hcp prep in the spring would seem good targets.
And nice work from AdaHunta in spotting him early |

He was beaten by a once in a carnival ride on the winner Lord. Even Waller mentioned that ride after the race. From barrier 20 he was one of the fence within 300m

Any thoughts on this Waller 4yo in R10 at Randwick today and also longer term this prep?
Did a great job in his 1st prep culminating in some black type placings over the QLD winter carnival.

Unfortunately this promising stayer has been shipped off to Hong Kong.
This year’s Queensland Derby runner-up Paternal will continue his racing career in Hong Kong, after arriving in the Asian city on Monday night. Paternal, formerly trained by Chris Waller, registered wins at Newcastle and Goulburn, before he was narrowly in both the G3 Rough Habit Plate (2143m) and the G1 Queensland Derby (2400m). Brisbane’s premier staying race for three-year old’s has been used as a steppingstone to Hong Kong success previously with the likes of Werther (second in 2015), Eagle Way (first in 2016) and more recently, Senor Toba (second in 2021) all going on to win at Group level in Hong Kong. Paternal will be trained in Hong Kong by Francis Lui, who also puts the polish on champion miler Golden Sixty. |
