Surely VE aims at either the Cox Plate or they go for the Arc.

It’s hard to imagine anything that finished 5th to 23rd this year making the necessary improvement to be figuring in the 2022 Cup finish.

1. VE might be getting ready for motherhood
2. Incentivise be targeting a Cox Plate-Mackinnon double
3. Spanish Mission may well be at stud as a National Hunt stallion

Which leaves us with 4th place getter in Floating Artist.  He’s progressed massively under Ciaron this prep & hopefully looking forward to seeing him back in 2022.

Exactly Lord Hebrew. The field was poor...very poor in terms of depth. We need plenty more of the internationals to return.
Australian racing is only good up to 1400m in terms of world standards when it comes to depth/quality in numbers

Forget the Cox Plate. The Arc is a much better race.

Exactly the opposite, the lack of internationals made it a more exciting event.  Hopefully they stay away from the race again next year.

We’ve got plenty more locals to come through the ranks, who didn’t run in the Cup this year.

As more mature 5yo mares Montefelia & Hungry Heart can step up to genuine staying trips.

Hitotsu & Profondo look highly promising young stayers.

Lloyd will have the exciting Hosier & Degraves as his prime candidates.

Young Werther should be a more furnished stayer as a 5yo.

The Maher Eustace yard will continue to churn out good stayers & there’s no reason why horses like Smokin Romans, Mankayan, Let’s Karaka Deel & Heart of Puissance cant be players in 2022.

There’s a lot to look forward to over locally the next 12 months!

The lack of internationals made the Cup a poor race quality in depth wise. Let's hope they return in droves in future years

I’ve thrown out the names of a few locals who can be candidates for next years race.

So Jamal, who are the ‘Internationals’ that you’ve spotted that could be contenders in the 2022 Cup?

The Melbourne Cup would be perfect with 4 or 5 genuinely good internationals up in the weights.

Hukum 114
Walton Street 116
Mojo Star 114
Alenquer 110
Bubble Gift (FR)
Lambo (Ger) Australian Bloodstock owned
Ottoman Emperor OTI owned.
Yibir 110
Kemari 109
Manobo 111

The race definitely needs more internationals cant see how anybody can argue against that. I was starting to enjoy looking through the internationals form each year there are plenty of options for average Australian stayers during the year.
Unless the betting figures were well up?

Exactly Docker...the race this year asked a lot of depth. People who say the internationals are not needed are clearly suck in the Aust racing bubble.

I think most people's problems with what you are saying Jamal is you need to prove it. You keep saying that these fields are poor, okay well why, is it the Timeform ratings, is it the races that all the runners race in leading into the main race or is it what they do after the main races.

Why are Australia's staying races poor?

I bet you that no one can even name all the runners in the Kentucky Derby!

I bet you that no one can name you all the runners in the Ascot Gold Cup!

I bet you no one can name you all the runners in the Ebor Handicap!

I bet you no one can name you all the runners in the Prix Kergolay!

I bet no one can name you all the runners in any staying race in the United States!

And as for those insignificant races in Dubai, the less said the better.

And I know they have good stayers but I have seen poor fields in the Japan Cup, which sometimes is made up of group 3 locals who could not win a listed race here in Australia. And that is even worse when you get to the series of Tenno staying events.

I think most people would agree with you in that this was not the best field the Melbourne Cup, but you could say that about the Ebor, Prix Kergolay and Ascot Gold Cup among others.

I think we need to start having more respect for our staying classics and our "group 2 and 3" handicaps.

A European horse can build a pretty good profile staying well away from the very best races. They can look a whole lot more respectable than they should be. The European horses tend not to run in races that make them look ordinary or slow until they get down here.

If less Europeans come down hopefully more Derby and Oaks runners down here will target the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups as 4yos..

Some of last seasons Classic colts/geldings and fillies that we did not see this spring or did not see a whole lot of but should be Cups horses of the future. They are not bad horses. They might look less than stellar because they run in so many unsuitable races.

Spanish Mission.............117.......60
Young Werther...............114.......58
Montefilia.......................108........53.5

Kukeracha......................100......50.5
The Elanora...................84.........45
Let's Karaka Deel..........82.........44
Ain'tnodeeldun...............80.........43
Senor Toba.....................79........42.5
Butter Chicken................78........40
Cetshwayo.....................67........36.5

To be fair though, the G2 and G3 handicap staying races aren't strong and haven't been for years. Not many horses from those races will win Melbourne Cups, which is a shame.

What weight would the mare carry I wonder if she were to back up one more time? Would she get more than the great Makybe Diva? I would think probably yes.

Interesting horse to allot a weight to. No form against the older horses.

Does he carry more or less than Duais ?

Think It Over heads toward the Cox Plate and Melbourne Cup next Spring.

By my calculation he will cop at least 58 kgs.

Verry Elleegant received 57 last season she was on 122 Think It Over will be on 120.

If Kerry Parker gets him to win over 2400m or longer, it would be a better training performance than when Bart got a Newmarket winner to run 3rd in the Japan Cup.

I love the horse, but he will be lucky to finish top ten in a Melbourne Cup.
