Melbourne Cup placegetter High Emocean has run her final race and will be sold at the Inglis Chairman's Sale in May.

The seven-year-old daughter of Ocean Park, who was selected by renowned bloodstock agent John Foote for $80,000 at the 2018 Karaka yearling sale, would go on to win seven races and more than $1.2 million in prizemoney.

Maher informed owners this week of the decision via a lookback video of her career, with the mare having last raced in the Geelong Cup last spring.

Having won her maiden at Ballarat in October 2019, it was the winter the following year she put together a hat-trick of wins, with triumphs at Sandown and Caulfield.

She would soon after go on to win the Listed R.M. Ansett Classic and later the Group 3 Bendigo Cup, which secured her a start in the 2022 Melbourne Cup with just 50 kilograms.

High Emocean would finish a strong, closing third behind Gold Trip and Emissary under Teo Nugent.

Winning isn't everything, it's the only thing

Hey Jamal, thanks for posting the timeform ratings again. Can I ask where you get these numbers from? They seem to be difficult to find. Is it a paid service?

Who would pay for such random number generator?

Yeah its a paid service.

Racing post and their calculation if you put in 1.3 lbs to the length and Gold Trip a 125 rating.

The Deauville Legend rating is surely the product of a warped mind.

That doesn't add up when you consider my point in my post above re the 3rd and 4th placed horses.

It makes perfect sense when you understand it. It's all about the weights. The rough calculation is plus or minus ~2 points per kg weight difference compared to the winner and then deduct another ~1 point per length behind the winner. Don't forget DL's 3kg age allowance (so he was effectively the top weight in the race carrying 58kg).

So the calculation is 125 (Gold trip) + 1 point (extra 0.5kg carried) -4 points (4 lengths behind Gold Trip) = 121. Hope that helps :) It's not an exact formula but it's very close.

A bit like the Caulfield Cup winner Durston - 110 Timeform rating for winning the Caulfield Cup (lowest winning rating in 20+ years). The runner up Gold Trip in the Caulfield produced a Timeform rating of 123 (carried more weight)

Usually winners carrying more weight will get a higher rating then a lighter weighted horse

I would assume the weight difference would be the main reason

That's why i should not have commented - got it arse about. Thought it was the ratings pre-race.

But I'm still struggling. How can you rate the second place getter 109 & the 4th place getter 124 - beaten a mile ?

I assume the base rating prior to the race has some impact - that's the only way it makes some sense.

Even so - looks like rubbish.

Huh?
Those are the ratings of each horses performance in the cup itself.
Not the prior rating.

They were tipping numerian in top 3, but rated it’s actual performance in the poo range.

Maybe - I wouldn't have a clue.

However, that timeform ratings of Jamal's above shows a general performance vs rating in the MC that's petty darn close to the mark. The higher the rating the better the result

How did Deauville Legend rate so high?

If I have read it correctly he carried WFA for a European 4yo, High Emoceon carried 7.5kg below WFA for a 6yo mare, so that makes up 15 of the 18 points difference there, but what about the other 3 points and the 1.75L gap between them?

Who would anyone bother, given his assessments of the place-getters in the Cup were hopelessly WRONG, WRONG and WRONG again.  Wink

Even if he doesn’t stay for next year, he absolutely should be running in the Zipping Classic in a few weeks.

nothing said about the winner going from one side of the track  to the other and back again?

change is simply a destination on a journey reached by taking the first step (i said that) lol
