Ben and 76ers have a bit of a problem. 76ers have paid too much for Simmons. No other team will take over that contract. Simmons doesn't want to play in front of nasty Phillie fans who are not impressed with his Finals efforts.
"This is a player who has repeatedly become an offensive liability in the postseason and refused to improve his game or accept responsibility for his mistakes." How does it end? Beats me. https://fansided.com/2021/09/23/ben-simmons-saga-continues/ |

He does seem to have issues upsetting people off the field. Got the majority of Australians off-side in a few days not all that long ago

Funny thing about Simmons - I always questioned his real NBA worth when he was on a pedestal in his College career. He always seemed to lack involvement in a game. His stats were always good based on pure ability alone - just seemed to lack intensity & the ability to mix it up when needed. His playing style is quite unique - & he can put on points, defend well & pass extremely well - so he has it all - except that illusive "involvement". Is their a stat that represents that ?

I am amazed that a point guard can get to the top level, of even high school basketball, without at least a mediocre outside game. Simmons has zero outside game. Didn't any of his coaches tell him to work on 3 point shots?

Is this Simmons any better than those other drop kicks Tomic and Kyrgios, although the latter has done a bit of charity recently ?

Privileged big sook. He would make a great pair with Liz Cambage. He has now successfully become disliked with the yanks as well as the aussies. And its hardly a racial thing either - compare to Patty Mills. absolutely adored by all & sundry. Joe Ingles same (although I know his white). My point is aussies are generally popular in the US

& if he's looking for sympathy from team mates - many from struggling childhoods - with half of his ability he is kidding. Probably knock him over at the first opportunity !

What has he done wrong? From what I understand he has the basketball version of the yips and has been dumped on rather than supported.

Did you see the vision of him at training yesterday PT ? I could have moved faster Obviously thought he could get around his training requirement by just turning up. Didn't work & got dumped on by the team.

Hadn't his position at that team already become untenable, and his actions recently are as a result of having no confidence from the locker room or management?

Decided he doesn’t like his current contract, and wants to move on.
Acting like a immature pr1ck, to try and force them to release him. He’s become an entitled w@nker

Also think Simmons deep down saw himself few years back as a Franchise Player. Not going to happen - esp with his inability to get on with management / teammates. Joe Embiid is that at the Sixers. And he's not happy with Simmons

Gee, Rusty for once we agree on something, what was in your birthday cake to make you so agreeable or did that bottle of 1986 Grange I sent you finally arrive ?

I dont follow the game but you would have to be living under a rock to not know who he was.
I cringed last year when he was making headlines on the political pages rather than sporting pages with his outspoken denouncements of Trump and full endorsement of Biden/Harris and was told to shut up and dribble. Hope that hasn't come back to bite him.

You’re overdue to get one right Bobbie!
Still waiting on the Grange, might be best to send a replacement, to make a bird of it

Who in their right mind will want to take him over from the 76ers? He'll end up playing in Turkey if he doesn't wise up.

Yes Rusty. Think my attitude is a good example. When he was in his last year in College & fav to be number one draft pick I lived the kid. Said so on here. Then in his first year got injured - still well liked by everyone. Branded a budding superstar not long after he came back - played really well. Took a while but just started to unravel - instead of facing his limitations he just became more aloof. And mixing with the Hollywood crowd. Made a dick of himself out here as well. Just kept going downhill.

He was (& to be fair probably still is) potentially Australia's "best ever known" Sportsman. To be in the top few NBA players in the world it is just another level compared to all other sports. Soccer , Golf & Tennis are the only ones that come even close. And he had/has that opportunity. Maybe too much pressure ? He is still young enough to turn it around

Yeah, I recall he was a big deal over there, came back here for extended holiday, and was reported as playing with his mates team in a suburban Monday night comp.
Thought he was really DTE. Looks like the entourage mentality over there, has turned him…..

The biggest problem with Ben on the court is he can't shoot and playing him at point guard not only takes away one of your traditional shooters but means you clog up the court with 3 taller players with Simmons, the PF and the C.
What they should do is play Simmons at PF but if you still want to run play through him they can. He plays as a point forward - think Giannis at the Bucks. This gives you the 2 shooters at guard and a potential 3rd at SF. A better spread overall. Curry Green Embiid Harris Simmons

There is a fair bit to this story , Simmons has indeed the shooting jips ,but to his credit he is in the top 5 in the league defensively, a two time all-star in a very brief career .
He found out second hand a negitive quote from management which should of been made to his face after last season's finals exit , which like anyone can get under your skin and indeed it has . He does not want to be at the Sixers wants out but is valued too highly to trade and it would be a massive financial loss to the Sixers as nobody has come close to what is needed to make a deal. So now a stalemate has developed he either trains and plays to his current contract or he gets fined for every time he deviates from the conditions if the contract . He lived in a somewhat small bubble of close friend's and family , like most of us , he doesn't socialise with the playing group, black sheep so to speak. It is a complex emotionally charged situation for a relatively young man to be in , there have always been the questions of how Joel and Ben would be able to find a role in the same team maybe the experience is over, it cannot continue forever though at its current course .
