They do. Jared moved to the North Shore where he took up pilates. Robbo said it changed him and a lot of his big bopper mates took it up with him.
All hands on deck, at least for the first trial game in Febuary.

Have those 30 injured Roosters from last year hit their straps again yet PT ?
They should be forced to do Pilates classes at least twice a week.

Oneone, hearing Melbourne desperately want new Rooster Brandon Smith gone and Pemruff are so desperate for players after the mass exodus they will pay overs to host him for a season.

I had half an hour in the Doctors waiting room this morning , with Justin Hodges , his Wife and livewire daughter .
He looks a million Dollars , Fit and strong . Employed as an Assistant Coach with the Dolphins. I hope he has given up on the Boxing madness. Not a game to start in at near 40 . Bloody fools . But he chooses his Doc well , They present as great Family Role models, Very friendly and one must wish the neighbours well. |

No they haven't. Chooks did that with Fattie Vautin a few decades ago. Made him play in the local competition and he reckoned it was the toughest he ever had as a player with everyone after his head,
Pointless Storm playing him if he doesn't want to stay though. I think Roosters will have to cut someone to fit him in this year if they let him go.

They wanted to punt Brandon Smith to the Tigers for Stefano Utoikamanu, so basically asking the Tigers to swap a potential 5-10 year top level prop for 12 months of cheese, surprisingly the Tigers said no.
I wouldn't be surprised if the Tigers go back with an offer of Liddle for Brandon Smith, or perhaps a 3 way deal with Api coming to the Tigers a season early, Smith to the Panthers for 12 months to help Mitch Kelly develop further and Liddle to the Storm could help placate all involved.

Have Storm got any bargaining power with Cheese? Worst they can do is play him in park football all 2022, on full pay, then he joins Rorters in 2023.

Melbourne are dark on the way Brandon Smith went about announcing he was joining the Chooks in 2023. So dark they are trying to get rid of him straight away, but not letting him go to Bondi. Tried to do a 12 month swap deal with Tigers who told them to p1ss off.

Daniel Toupou regularly tops the run meters and hit ups, is faultless under the high ball and scores spectacular tries.

I understand why players want fullback money rather than winger money, but I don't understand why the game values good wingers so much less than good fullbacks, as many have shown over the years a good winger can be very handy for a team in kick returns and try scoring, ok they don't have the same impact in attack as a good 1 like Teddy or Tommy Turbo, but as guys like To'o, Ado-Carr, Sivo and even Holmes show, a winger can still be useful.
Saying this in response to Holmes, who only wants to be a 1 because of the extra $$$ the position attracts.

I half agree with you Afros but it is not entirely their fault. Some of the recruits they have brought in have regressed. McLean was in the top five props when he went north and now he is barely holding his spot in the team. Valentine Holmes is one of the better wingers in the game but his want to be a fullback has unbalanced the team. He also has looked uninterested for long periods in the last two seasons. Esan Masters was playing well for the Tigers when he was brought but his time in Townsville he went missing. Coen Hess has fallen off the cliff from being a walk up start in State Of Origin to being a barely average first grader. They also had the big Michael Morgan contract hanging around their neck when he did not offer much in performance due to in jury and guys like Jake Granville and Kyle Feldt have not kept their standard of performance up. I think Townsend can help them. They have a couple of young second rowers who are showing good signs, although I see that Brisbane and the Dolphins are circling and if Leilua can become a little more consistent and add further assistance to Taumalolo, add Tabuai Fidow at fullback, Holmes back on the wing and Reece Robinson can continue to improve, they are looking a better balanced side than last year. And the biggest if is the coach. |

That was pretty much the old system wasn't it? The one that they complained disadvantaged so many fringe players, leaving them out in the cold and accepting scraps. This change was meant to give the players with short playing life spans some power.

I have an idea PT. How about a player just finish their current contract before even being allowed to talk to a opposition team. Maybe have a clause in their contract, that if a club has not made a offer for a new contract six weeks out from the completion of their current contract they can then negotiate. It is the NRL being spineless because they do not want another Terry Hill court case when they created their draft. But surely a sporting body can issue criteria about contracts, that they sanction, without being accused of exploitation or unfair workplace practices. I still say the player managers have too much power and again the NRL should deregister any player manager who is causing financial stress on the clubs and who is threatening the NRL with court action because of a NRL regulation. So basically it comes down to the NRL not having the balls to stand up to their different groups, the clubs, the players and the player agents.

I think the NRL need a common draft to help give value to free agents, you could have compensatory draft picks based on the losses/gains from free agency the previous season, plus it would give senior players a value so that these all to common signed a year out and agitating for a release moments don't happen.
A rule similar to the NFL franchise tag would also then be able to be implemented giving clubs more power to hold on to star players while also guaranteeing that they are paid to a level worthy of their status. At the moment the only way for a club to get their way off the bottom is to throw money around like a drunken sailor as the Bulldogs have and given how many new faces they have it's questionable how it will work out for them, at least with a common draft the lower clubs can draft some young talented kids and potentially build a side to challenge over a few years, instead of certain clubs hoovering up the talented juniors because winning culture. The game is already built on shaky foundations but if it is allowed to drift along with certain clubs dominating and others not winning much at all, eventually fans will drift away.

Doesn't seem to stop other athletes in other pro sports negotiating far bigger contracts.

With the average career length of an NRL player being less than 50 games, their opportunity to maximise what they have is limited. The old system of players in limbo until after the current NRL season was over and the rush for a new club in the off season was very harsh on players and career uncertainty.
Not sure what the answer is but player friendly is probably better than club friendly.

Will the NRL ever end the farce where they are the only professional sport in the history of sport where players sign contracts to leave their club a year before the go?

Looks like Luciano Leilua is going to be Matt Burton of this off-season as the Cowboyss and he push to get him out of the Tigers and up to Townsville early. If I were the Tigers I'd be negotiating hard with the Cowboys to get him out early, given his brother has been punted and saying plenty and Luciano has already signed elsewhere he'll likely be a disruptive influence until he's allowed to leave.
Questions have to be asked about the Cowboys recruitment and retention over the last few years, they've allowed the likes of Ponga and Jake Clifford to leave, paid overs to bring in players like Leilua and Townsend while seemingly ignoring young talents.

I can see why you say that oneone, but for me he would have been a great buy for the new team. He is not worth $700,000, maybe $500,000 at the most. But he is a match winner when he decides to get his finger out. I thought Bennett would have been a great coach for him as he could give him a little structure, to mix with his high end plays. At $400,000 he would have been a great pick up for the new club. Papali'i is a far superior worker than Leilua and unless you are a regular, huge big play performer you are not a $500,000 forward.

How do Canterbury manage to pay Kyle Flanagan 600k a year? I wouldn't have thought he was in a strong bargaining position after Roosters booted him. Kikau 850k Super Coach Gould at your service.

He was apparently p1ssed off that the Tigers paid $600k a year to get Isaiah Papilií from Parramatta and looked elsewhere saying he was undervalued. Parra had offered him $425k. Getting crazy out there.
