Despite his parents' pronunciation of his name as /?k?l?n/ (KOLL-in), Powell pronounced his name /?ko?l?n/ (KOHL-in) from childhood on after the World War II flyer Colin P. Kelly Jr.[19] Radio and television reporters have used Powell's preferred pronunciation

I doubt Colin Kelly was Jamaican or pronounced his name the Powell way. I doubt they pronounce Colin the Powell way in Jamaica. I think Coe-Lin made it up.Wink

Did you know?
Powell's parents, Jamaican immigrants and subjects of the British empire, pronounced their son's name KAH-lin. But Powell's childhood friends in the South Bronx, impressed by the heroic exploits of World War II flyer Colin P. Kelly Jr. (known as KOH-lin), altered the pronunciation and its been KOH-lin Powell ever since.

Oh, well. Could be wrong. Known by who is the question.

I would have thought you’re entitled to pronounce your name any way you like. I remember working with someone called Sean but pronounced Seen. Perhaps that is more common that I think but I have never encountered it before or since.

I think names should be phonetic so that they are pronounced as they read - makes it easier for everyone- and when I am elected dictator I will mandate that.Wink If you want to be called Seen spell your name Seen.

Halyna Hutchins. I don't get it. Either it was a blank in which case the question is why was Baldwin pulling the trigger on a gun loaded with a blank, aiming at the cinematographer's head from very short range? Or why was the gun loaded with a live round?

Hasn't been established what was in the gun but a blank at close range range can kill you. Ask Brandon Lee.

I remember in cadets bush camping they put a tin can on the end of an old .303 with a blank in it and blew it 20 feet in the air. You wouldn't want someone firing it at you from extremely close range.
